This is having dividers on the compressor inlet, one feeding only a small portion of the edge of the compressor while the other mini chambers are under vacuum. You spit high velocity air at the tips of the compressor wheel when under low load so that the compressor wheel recover some of the energy otherwise lost to the throttle. Ideally you have some "cone" like on the SR71's engine that spins with the compressor and can block off the fins but that's way too hard to build.

Complicated, but I think it's not as bad as some of the German shit. It removes the bypass valve and or clutch and adds 2 throttles...The S85 has a dedicated oil pump for the VANOS system, a constant displacement oil pump and then a second variable displacement oil pump (why not just one variable displacement pump...) acting as your usual oil pump, and then 2 more electric oil pumps in the head to suck out excess oil during cornering. Why not variable inlet guild vanes shaped to give the results you're looking for?

Cuz compressor and turbine work a bit differently. Variable inlet turbos have the vanes control turbine inlet speed essentially. If you put the vanes in the housing on the compressor though, all you can do with that is block off the air, as it doesn't control the velocity through the impeller since it's downstream of the impeller.

The air entering the inducer travels parallel to the axis of the compressor, so the only way vanes would work is if you build another snail shaped housing over the compressor inlet, which would be very hard to design and likely sacrifice flow. Besides, an engine that's idle consumes very little air, and you'd have to be able to have the vanes almost completely shut off flow to the compressor.

Are you talking tube within a tube? Small area/high velocity for the tips, and the normal tube in the center? There would probably be friction issues on the outer section. Maybe some kind of 3d foot-ball shaped 'throttle'?

That IRIS looks like pure fantasy, IMO. Too much 'stuff' that needs sealing, and converting the expansion motion to useful work seems really inefficient. Kinda telling that there is no prototype in the years since the initial concept, no matter what NASA said about it at the time...

But are you talking about an intake tube that can change diameter (and hence velocity) similar to the IRIS' combustion chamber? There are problems there from transitions, if that is the case.

And that only gets rid of a centri's airflow restriction, but there is still the whole drive/gearing issue. Even if there was no air resistance, there is still added friction and inertia to spin it.

I've been thinking about compensating balance wheels more than nifty engine tech lately, so apologies if the above sounds rambly.

So I filled up my FRS at shell with the good V power gas and this guy in front on me with a gas can came up to me and asked if I can give him some gas.. I said No..he was like come on just a bit..

Hate people that asking for gas when they are at the gas station and they even drive a car for a fact.. Plus he looked like a crack head looking like slim shady

Not giving you a drop of v power on that old crappy Hyundai accent

I had a guy ask me for gas once. I was tempted to say yes because I wanted to do something generous for once, but I always think about my loans first so I told him no. Was glad I said no when he walked away and I saw him climb into an SUV.

I actually do help those whom need it. I've only done this a few times. The most I ever gave away was a $20.

Sure some people are obviously lying to your/my face just to get a free hand out. Doe that bother me? Yeah, but I tell them to send the favor back if I'm ever in the need for it and that God will judge them in the end.. not me (that message is for the fiends out there).

And usually I get asked for a hand out in a certain section of my city, so I just plan accordingly and fill up my gas tank in another part of the city to avoid that gas station. I got bills to pay too, you know?

Nothing wrong with that. I've also turned away people that needed money but only because you could tell they don't need it.

And I guess you guys have beggars on the highway? We don't have that problem here.

This also goes through my head too. What makes them think we have so much money to give away? Is it the car or clothes? All I know is if I was a beggar I'm not going to some kid/student that's got their own money issues to worry about.

Yea tube within a tube. Tube that changes diameter is too hard to make, 6 places to seal. Tube within a tube, outer tube probably needs some shaping to make sure the friction doesn't get out of hand at the inlet.

The hope is that the compressor might even generate positive torque and feed it back to the engine, but obviously efficiency is going to be low, but like 100W or something is better than -100W. I'm pretty sure if you just attach a vacuum cleaner (~500W pumping power after all losses?) to the wrong side of a compressor you can get like 10% of the energy back, with this "nozzle" it might improve to 20%. Under engine braking it might actually work pretty well, though a second idle air control valve might be a good idea since I don't think those valves allow much air through when fully open.
