Anybody Used SoloStorm on Android

Looks to be a competitor to Harry's Lap Timer on iPhone, but it's WAY more expensive ($200). Since I'm an Android guy though, I would have to buy a used iPhone4 or something just to run Harry's. Which I'm not opposed to, but for simplicity's sake I would prefer to run the SoloStorm if it's at the level of Harry's.

A bunch of us run it, it works very well if autocross is what you are really after. It will allow you to do comparisons between runs even with a short amount of time between them. Mike@Petrel is very good with support as well.

I like Harry's too, the newer updated version is good but it's not geared towards autocross like Solostorm is. Some other local guys also use Racechrono with good results for datalogging and rendering to video, but not really something you can use while you are competing as easily as Solostorm.

I'm mainly only doing track days at Sebring right now. I saw some video that @Amalgamo recorded with Harry's and it was really cool. I liked all the overlay info that was on it (Track Map, Sector Times, Speed, Etc.).

I was looking at eBay and I can get a used iPhone4 for under $100. I don't need data connectivity for taking the video (only the camera and internal GPS). So between that and the Harry's software - I'm under $150.

Since the SoloStorm STARTS @ $200 - my hope would be that it's quite a bit better than Harry's or offers something that Harry's cannot do.

I'm really just interested in documenting my laps with video, and keeping a record of my lap times. I'm not going to deep dive into the data too much...

I too would like to hear a review between Harrys andSoloStorm

Both can use 3rd party wifi GPS devices and wifiOBD2 devices.

So the only difference is the software, one is sig more expensivethan the other.

Just based off the pictures it SEEMs like solostorm, esp therecent versions, is getting closer to the level interactivity that somethinglike AiM’s SoloDL offers.

Solostorm is a 400-450 dollar investment after all said anddone (depending on how cheap you can find an android tablet for)

If I was using it just for track duty I would probably stick with Harry's. It has a lot of tracks, certainly Sebring, built in and ready to go. It's easy to do lap timing with it, which Solostorm isn't really built for. Solostorm is more meant for starting and stopping like autocross, not running continuous laps. There is a reason why it has "solo" in the name. Both can take in data from OBD2 and export video with overlays or for use with other programs like RaceRender.

You want to get a different GPS for your phone like the Emprum one, the internal one isn't very good and won't give you accurate results.

I found another one called TrackMaster that looks pretty cool too and works on Android:

I didn't know RaceChrono did rendering to video, but I use it on an old Windows Mobile phone for laptimes in my racecar. It is fairly easy to setup new tracks and the laptimes off it and my AMB transponder are always within a hundredth. Best of all it is free and old Windows Mobile phones might as well be free as well.
