Yeah generally manufacturers stick with the "suggested" or "measured" wheel spec for a tire, and in general for a 215/45/17 that's 7.0. In recent specs posts I've seen the 17x7.5 though and anything from 7-8 is considered acceptable for a 215 (without either stretching or.. pinching? not sure what the opposite would be called).

Either way I'm replacing the OEM wheels simply because 1) I don't like them and 2) they weight 20lbs based on the tech manual.

Tyre selection dictates rim width, not the other way around.

Also, coilovers in theory should take up less space, so even wider wheels will be possible then.

For most people though, anything beyong a 8.5" wheel is going to be either for looks (deep dish) or autocross/track so they can fit really wide tires on the car... or for drifters to stretch 205s over a 10" wheel or whatever the heck they do.
But, like, stretching tires totally gives me better steering response and stuff. I need it for control in corners and stuff. Plus I can run lower offsets and that means wider track man!

more important for me is - which offset the oem wheels are?!

OEM Wheel width?

I've tried looking for the specs of the OEM wheels, but can't seem to find the definitive answer. Are the stock 17" wheels 7 or 7.5" wide? How about the offset, 45?

Definitely nobody will know the weight, but they don't look particularly heavy. I'm guessing around 18lbs.

I'm really hoping that I can run at least a 9" wide wheel for the car, but there just don't seem to be much choices out there for a 5x100 bolt pattern...

It is mentioned 17x7

http://www.insideline.com/subaru/brz...rst-drive.html

Wheel size17-by-7 inches front and rear

Edward Loh's BRZ twitter

WORLDS FIRST BRZ REVIEW: Edward Loh, our good buddy who happens to also be the new Editor-in-Chief of @Motor Trend Magazine. He also became one of the first to drive the Subaru BRZ a few hours ago in Japan. He just did the world's first BRZ review... Tweeted. Follow him at Twitter.com/edloh. Now. Some highlights:

BRZ stands for Boxer Rear drive Zenith

BRZ Limited adds: Leather/alcantara trimmed seats, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims, vented discs (16-in front/15-in rear).

Oh yeah, and NAVIGATION comes standard on BRZ, along with 8-spkr audio sys, soft touch dash, and alu pedal pads!

BRZ std features (Premium): LSD, tilt/telo leather wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, e-brake lever, 6spd manual, cruise ctrl.

BRZ 2nrs: Wheel offset is +48mm; width is 6.5 in for 16 inch wheels, 7 in for 17s. Max wheel diam is 18, maybe 19, w/ 215 fr and 225 rr.

BRZ lat g target is 1g. Btw, Subie considers competitive set Mini Cooper S, HyundaiGenesis Coupe, MX-5, GTI, Civic Si, and Scion FR-S.

Top speed limited by 7450rpm fuelcut. In 6th gear, that is about 220kmh or about 136mph. Seems low but #checkmymath

BRZ Cd is 0.27 thanks to diffusers, double bubble roof channel, and rear deck lid spoiler (which smoothes airflow, doesn't add dforce.

BRZ to be available in 7 colors: black, pearl white, dark blue, silver, dark gray, and WRX blue (of course).

More BRZ/FR-S/GT86 trivia: Subaru sez 86x86 mm bore/struck is merely coincidence and not Toyotaorder.

BRZ FA20 engine must take premium b/c of trick D4S port and direct fuel injection. Comp ratio is 12.5:1, yet Subie claims 30mpg hwy!

Light weight pays off big. Brilliant MX-5-like handling but w/ practical 2+2 package. 200hp/150tq, from 2L boxer pushing only 2700lbs

Subaru BRZ should go on sale in May 2012, starting around $24k for Premium and about $27k for Limited. Subie expects sales of 3-4K/yr

Breaking News: According to Subaru a key difference between BRZ n Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S are firmer front n softer rear spring rates 4 BRZ.

Someone created a new thread. I posted that then asked Hachi to combine the threads he combined them but didn't delete my post.

Nope (I can name a couple of cars w/ more HP that have the same size wheels but staggered tires) and that is fine
