Scion isn't an iffy brand per se but Toyota did ripoff the name Cylon from Battlestar Galactica. |

I'm not surprised you didn't answer the question because then you would have to conjure up a reason why you think Subaru is a bad brand.

Scion is a horticultural term meaning root stock. Which is what the brand is supposed to do create some good roots for young buyers who can then mature with the Toyota family tree. *edit.. A scion is actually what is grafted onto the rootstock |

I ordered an FR-S from my neighborhood Scion dealer where I previously bought my tC. (The color I wanted, hot lava, was exclusive to Scion.) They found one just making port and requested it. After waiting three weeks for delivery, I called my salesman to see what was up with my order. I was told the car had arrived but it was an automatic - not the manual as I had ordered. (Apparently they didn't look close enough at the specs and then didn't have the guts to tell me this when it arrived, hoping they could find a replacement before I checked to see what the hold-up was.) They said they were looking around the area to see if they could find another one for me. In the meantime, miffed to say the least after three weeks of waiting and then having my order botched, I walked across the street to my neighborhood Subaru dealer and got a good look at a BRZ Limited in dark grey metallic. I liked the color (not so midlife crisis-ish as my first choice Scion color, I decided) as well as the many nicer features of the BRZ Limited compared to the FR-S. The salesman told me the one I was sitting in was spoken for but they checked and found one from another metro dealer they could drive down for me to pick up the next day. I went back to the Scion dealer told them not to bother looking anymore and got my deposit back. I picked up the Subaru the next day and felt lucky in a way - like I ended up with a car I'm going to like much more.

I didn't care about the brand... I like the look of both cars. My current car is the basest of base models, lol. My car is old so anytime I fix something, something else breaks. So I figured I deserved a brand new car after all the work I've put in over the years...
I wanted to get the highest trim if possible of the car I would buy. So after looking at different cars, I settled on the 86. After looking at the trim levels, I think the Limited is worth the extra money. |

I had $1900 in Subaru Bucks rewards from my credit card. The BRZ is nicer and I'm a Subaru guy anyway, but I would have gladly bought an FR-S.

Well, Scion didn't start it. Prior to that, it was a Toyota thing, with the celebs piloting Toyota Celica GT-Ss, but obviously that couldn't continue once the cars were no longer in production, so it shifted to Scion since they still had relatively sporty two-door coupes in their lineup.

In case anyone hasn't figured it out yet, Scion=Toyota... When you buy a Scion, you are buying a Toyota. Just because the badge is shaped different doesn't change what it is. I could put Ferrari symbols on my FRZ and it would still be a Subaru/Toyota. |

I'm just saying that your criticisms of Subaru weren't exactly a reason to downplay their involvement in racing. Basically you were discrediting Subaru because they didn't actively participate in WRC "anymore" (as if pulling out of that particular motorsport in recent years means that their credibility is shot, despite around 20 years of prior participation), but Scion has credibility because they still do some events that they got into within the past few years that involve a bunch of celebs, most of whom don't race competitively, racing for fun. That's not to discredit what the Scion brand is doing, but it's not exactly leaps and bounds more significant than what Subaru had been doing. |
