on my rx7 when i tracked it.. i went down sizes from my street wheels which were 18x9 to 17x8.5 +25 (225/45) in the back & 16x7.5 +30 (215/45) fronts. And I felt most comfortable with that setting..that gave me good laps without being too twitchy or to grippy.

For the AS1 if i were to track it, id probably not do a staggerd setup, and run 16x8 and 225/45 front and 235/40 rear. But im really just eyeballin it and bench racing...i would really need to experience the car first before i decide where i need more grip or more response.

I don't think I'll put any 16" rims. I would like 18" for looks only, it is the best size for most trackcars, but in the case of 86/BRZ this is not needed as thecar is really small and does not have big power. I think I'll go with 17" Volk and Nitto 245/40/17 all round as I want to put AP Racing 6 and 4 pot calipers. It will increase stopping power. But for stock brakes, racing pads, flexe hose and fluid is enough, not to have the brakes fade out after a few laps.

Run 16's almost exclusively on a track s13. $30 to $40 a tyre mightn't sound much but for drifters the money adds up quick, and the person with the most track time generally comes out in front.

For grip, admittedly the local track is rough as guts, but running lower profile tyres generally resulted in to much vibration and twitchyness. Its just a personal opinion, but I reckon for these lighter cars, running low profiles, then expecting the suspension to do the extra work to maintain contact patch just ends up unsettling the chassis too much. Heavier cars have the inertia for the suspension to work against, but with lightweights you end up having to lower the spring rate, then dealing with body roll etc... the few extra mm of sidewall flex solved a lot of setup problems for me.

I'll definitely be running the smallest diameter that fits over the brakes in the winter. 15" if it'll take it. And probably 16" in the summer as smaller tires are just cheaper. As for the big brake kit, if you're not going to the track every weekend, not worth it. Upgraded pads and DOT 4 will be more than enough for occasional auto-x and lapping day duty. I ran a race school in my Accent with all stock brakes (including rear drums) and I had no problem out-braking heavier cars with better brakes on better tires (including an M3 and Lancer Raliarts).

I found it interesting that other car guys (that own non Z06 corvettes) looked to a GM stable mate and are using the "spare/steel" wheels from the CTS-V for drag wheels
