Almost did this to mine a few days ago: Tire pressure was low + TC off + drifting. Suffice to say. Lessons learned, a very humbling experience. |

Still want to know, were your tires worn and caused understeer or sliding? Or did TC kick in and keep you from powering through the corner? Or did you just have a bad angle or timing when you turned?
To those saying its drivers fault, agreed, but the car's turning and cornering is usually predictable up to the point TC kicks in and spoils the fun or you go into a slide that the car's braking can't control. Last edited by radroach; 05-13-2013 at 06:55 PM. |

I will go out on a limb and say there was a "distraction" and not overt reckless behavior. (I am being kind). Parents either do not know or gave him the "If my insurance goes up one dime....." speech.
In the end, it is only a car and can be replaced. Glad everyone is physically ok but there is a lesson to be learned and it will be painful. |

Once you get the car back on its feet, seek out local AutoX events. You'll learn car control in an environment that won't bite back. And have a ton of fun at the same time.

Good luck with the repair, and hope no chassis damage!
Sports bikes and sports cars. Its not if but when, just part of life of learning to drive/ride. A real drift/race car is dinged up to shit. A super clean glossy car is just a show car.

I don't know about the stock bridgestone tires that come on your fr-s, but the michelins are pretty excellent and I like the amount (or lack of) grip they have and their rotational ability. I looked at other tires but they're mostly racey and grippy, I think this car was designed best for using the stock michelin primacy hp (japanese tires, also) that allows a certain amount of slip and traction, and sounds good when you're peeling out. They're great tires unless you're tracking.

Bad tires, under steer, oversteer, distractions. In the end ill vote one thing "inexperience"! We all were seventeen once and boy those were good days, but was I a great driver? Nope! Did I like most all teenagers want to listen to many folks advice? Nope!
I think this is very little car and all discussed things, more of what was happening behind the wheel and in the mind nothing more. Props to the young buck for sharing his story but we all have screwed up at times of our lives no biggie. |

My oem tires ARE Michelin Primacy. ("put the same horrible oem tires "back" verifies this!" ) I have no love for them. Perhaps I would like Bridgestones as oem rubber! I always had great luck with them in the past. My 2009 Civic SI also came wrapped in Michelin rubber. No love there either. I prefer a grippy Falken. Anything providing mid grip and all season capability works for me...
