Also, I think this car is nearly tuned to the bleeding edge. I am worried about engine reliability with these tunes that raise the RPM and lean out the engine.

I am doing intake and exhaust and suspension, and that's IT until the new 2014 BRZ comes out to see if they get any more HP out of the engine and hopefully buy/replace the part(s) that do it. I'd rather have 225hp that is reliable from the factory than 250 from tuning and questionable after market accessories.
There will be no BRZ STI, there was a official announcement by Subaru that there are no plans in the future to release a higher performance spec.

The engine is not "nearly tuned", it runs too rich from the factory, the ecu is tuned for emissions and mileage, not performance. The stage 1 fa20club tune alone on stock, nets 13whp, and actually increases your mileage. The FA20 is way too reliable...

Agreed.

To "reliably" turbo this car, it will require lower compression pistons, higher flow fuel pump, injectors etc etc. All of these can escalate the price of FI to be above 5k - 6k.

Reduce weight and add a little power....I didn't buy this car to win drag races.

A small S/C setup wouldn't be a bad idea but i'll wait til after i pay mine off and have enough for a long block lol.

All for the purpose of spirited driving

What are good weight reduction? I have already removed the spare wheel and tire and replaced it with a tire repair kit. Also replaced the battery with a lightweight lithium battery that i bought for 150 off ebay. i still need the trunk mat and panels as i still to put stuff in the back. Still have the jack to jack up the car in case to repair the tyre. and still have rear seats for the child seat.

Remove the sound tube b/s the plastic covers on things *not the ones for water just the showy ones*
New exhaust and headers if you get them, get ones lighter than stock.
Wheels and tires
driver diet lol
if you go wider tires get one slightly shorter for gearing advantage.

spirited driving, autoX possible track day.

Yep i will get perrin headerback exhaust which is lighter than stock. And dont know what headers i should get.

Wheels and tires, i will change to ENKEI and Kumho Escta XS when the headers and headerback has been done.

Driver diet, if i lose more weight, i will perhaps die

What do you mean by "slightly shorter"?

YOur going to be getting more then 30. Closer to 40, and then add in E85... For the money you spend, its a huge jump. Add in lighter wheels and tires, remove other weight. You can also get a lighter flywheel and crank Pulley. After all that your still below basic FI power with the option to add it later while having all the previous parts.

for example on my wrx it came with 235/45/R17's

if you replaced it with 235/40/17's the sidewalls are shorter and the affect is lower gearing.

Oh ok so that the tires circumference will be smaller. But it will comprise ride quality, which is pretty important as a DD :/

yeah that's true....the sidewalls are pretty small from the factory.

There are little things you can do to make the car more fun. most of which have already been listed.

Close to 40 hp gain for only $2000 in IHE mods... before E85??? Please tell us how to do that.

I think he means 40hp at the crank. A header, with headerback, intake and stage 2 tune should yield around 30whp.
