No offense, but like John said, that is almost a useless number. That's only instantaneous mpg, but it changes every second. It's greatly affected by whether or not you are on an incline, did you lift a little...blah blah blah.

I just use it to keep my "spirit" in check.

There are lots of great smart phone apps that do all the hard work for you, plus show you trends, etc. The one I use I just enter the odometer reading, amount of fuel (in liters for me) and price/L, it gives me a nice graph over different time ranges and will export the raw data to excel as well.

There's two mpg (or l/100km for us Canadians ) gauges in the car. One is instantaneous, the other is the cumulative average since the last time it was reset. Neither are super accurate, but they do show very different information.

How would you account for time spent idling? From what ive seen the mpg avg. Accounts for this.

What do you mean ?

MPG is Miles Per Gallon of gas, idle included. If you let your car idle for half a tank of gas your MPG will be greatly effected. The gauge on the dash can give you a idea where your at but is not capable of being more accurate then doing math yourself

Yeah, like John said, MPG number includes idle time, no need to try and take it out of the calculation.

The more time you spend idling the more fuel gets used while the mileage stays the same.

1.) Fill up tank
2.) Reset trip meter
3.) Refuel when tank is near empty
4.) Divide the miles you drove by the gallons of gas consumed (amount you put in)

So for instance if I drove 338 miles on a tank and used 10.482 gallons of gas, my MPG would be 32 for that tank. The MPG indicator in the car is not correct, and for me seems to be off from 1-2MPG.

My average fuel consumption readout is only 3% under that calculated at the pump.
Once ECU values have been changed by Ecutek that accuracy might be lost?

If you have aftermarket injectors and your tuner scaled the injectors the correct way in EcuTek, the OEM gauge will not read accurately. Mine is normally off by at least 3 MPG compared to calculating it manually.
