Scion Grad Rebate Program.

Hey everyone I have a quick question regarding a current situation i'm in. So I have leased a 2013 Scion FRS and while negotiating for my lease I asked about the grad rebate which is $1000 off the MSRP and they gave it to me no questions asked. I didn't have to show them a transcript, or a diploma. I'm currently in the process of completing my program and should be done by the end of this summer but now my dealership is calling me asking for a transcript or diploma. I have already signed the lease and the deal has been done. Matter of fact I've been driving the car since February of this year.

My question is can the dealership change the price of my monthly payment if I don't present them with my transcript or diploma? I was told by a friend it's the dealership's fault for not checking my credentials before giving me the grad rebate to see if I qualified for it.

I can't see how they can change the price. I would just ignore the request or not answer the phone. What can they do really?

Have you actually taken delivery already? If not, nothing is final until the car is delivered and signed for.

Yes, I have been driving the car since February 23rd. The dealership just called me last week regarding this issue.

Go to scion.ca and actually read up on the terms of the grad program. You qualify if you're graduating within 4 months and also even from high school apparently. Make sure you read the fine print of stuff before you go and buy a car, house, etc! Go show your dealer the paperwork or else Scion Canada will probably be on their ass and then they won't like you very much when you go in for an oil change etc.

The rebate comes in from a outside party and the dealership is credited for the discount. How they delivered the car without all of that paperwork is beyond me. If your diploma does not qualify they can not change your contracts now they will just be out $1000. But im sure if you help them out they will help you out.

So I went to the dealership yesterday to submit my highschool diploma for the grad rebate. The Financial Services Manager then contacted someone who seemed to be the General Manager and he said that my highschool diploma does no qualify for the grad rebate since that promotion was not in effect when I purchased the car. Then he told person I was speaking to that they would have to find the $1000. He seemed very upset about the situation. According to the website it says

"The dealership is responsible to ascertain that the applicant meets the required terms and conditions before an Allowance Application Form is submitted."

I'll still submit my transcript to them but i'm not sure if it will be accepted since I graduate at the end of summer and that would be greater than 4 months from the date I purchased the vehicle.

I guess the dealship will take a loss if anything goes wrong?

You already have the car delivered, and they accepted everything on delivery so they're pretty much stuck with it.
