Used Volk SE37k 18x7.5 +48 wheels and TPMS - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I recently got a good Craigslist deal on a used set of discontinued Volk forged SE37K rims that came with some cheap Falcon 225/40/18 tires on them with 60/70 tread left. They're not in perfect condition and not a very aggressive offset, but I'm still happy with them for how much I paid, hoping to put them on my FRS within the next few days. I picked up some hub-centric rings and super lightweight Rays Duralumin lug nuts & locks today.

What should I expect compared to stock as far as performance goes? The SE37s are some the lightest forged wheels ever made (~16 lbs for 18x7.5) compared to the 20lbs of the stock FRS/BRZ wheels but more of the weight is away from center. I'm also going to go with Eibach pro-Kits to make things look a little better. Was considering getting some 20mm spacers all around but I'll get them on first to see if the anti-flushness will be bothering me much.

Also a question about TPMS. The set came with TPMS but it came from a Prius. Can I reprogram Prius TPMS to work with the FRS? Also, anybody have experience with the TPMS reprogrammers on Amazon for $160? If it works easily and reliably I might just pick one up so I can swap between the stock set and the SE37s.

Those are some bad ass wheels. I'm pretty jealous.

As far as TPMS goes, I'd probably say ignore the light or cover it up. The light doesn't affect the cars performance like some other vehicles where you can't turn off VSC or traction when TPMS light is on. I had the same dilemma. Either try to put on stock TPMS, get new ones and reprogram them, or just ignore the light and keep my sexy ray valve stems. I went the later option.

Was listed for $1500 firm, but got them for $1300 after complaining about how I have no need for the tires attached and the scratches/marks on them (which hopefully are repairable for the most part). They came with some MXP super lightweight Duralumin Alloy Lock & Nut Set too (retails for $175/new alone), but in M12 x P1.5 so not a fit for the FRS.

I should be able to sell them again for about the same price when I'm through with them assuming I don't screw them up since these are getting more difficult to find.

nice find, regardless, but yeah there does seem to be a whole lot of curb damage on the one rim we can see clearly in the pic.

do you know how much the rims weigh ?

According to http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11454, the 17x7.5 weighs 14.3 lbs and the 18x9.5 weighs 16.8lbs, so I would say the 18x7.5 weigh close to 16lbs... which is crazy light for a 18 in wheel. I haven't weighed them myself yet...

That is crazy light! My 17's I am looking at weight 17.8lbs which is still not bad. But at that price nice catch!

Prius TPMS is likely a no-go. Which $160 tools are we talking? There's a 'quickset TPMS' for $150 on amazon, which works. Had it for years, used it several times with my BRZ already.

If you're on a budget - I'd run these tires this summer, and during off season (is there such a thing in Cali?) junk the tires, have the wheels repaired/straightened (in about 90% of the sets I ever purchased used there was a least one wheel that could use some straightening) a get new rubber.

Personally, I'd have them stripped, straightened, rash fixed and low-temp powdercoated. Then I'd be set for years.

Sad that they got discontinued, would have loved them to come out with 9.5 +40 in either 17 or 18.
