Even with 17s that's not really reasonable. My stock size setup cost more than that for the wheels alone, and they're not terribly expensive wheels either. With the tires I was around $2000.

If you really want 18" wheels and tires of decent quality, you're going to have to save a bit more.

I got cheap 17's that were 2lbs lighter and a half inch wider. I used the stock tires till they were done. Later, I upgraded the tires.

I bought new Michelin tires, 225/45/17 all around. $900 installed with $100 rebate. So $800 total.

To be honest, tires are more important in my opinion than wheels for how the car performs. Wheels are more important for how the car looks. It is up to you on how you want to balance these two aspects of the car. For 1000 you will have to make some sort of compromise.

I too would recommend looking on the used scene and try to find something you like. May take a month or two, but if your hardline budget is 1k, then this will be your best bet. I do agree with the above posters that a 1k purchase for both wheels and tires could potentially end up being a downgrade. Someone above recommended plasti dipping your stockers for the time being and saving up some more cash and getting something that youll like and will perform well. I think that may be the best idea for you overall. Nice thing about plasti dip is that its really quite easy to do and actually looks fantastic. If you want to see some good examples of plasti dip on stock wheels Id recommend jumping over to the subaru modders forums, those guys love the plasti on their stock wheels. You also have a whiteout, so you can pretty much plasti dip any color you want and it will look good. Go neon orange imo

Anyway, your car stock is still awesome, so i would say dont stress it.

You can get the ESM BBS replicas for under $600 in 8.5/9.5 staggered on ebay. I was tempted, they do look nice, though not sure if they are available in black

Oops my bad looks like 8/9 staggered not 8.5/9.5

check out wheelfire.com they have packages in the $1000 range but depending what you pick, at that price you're generally either getting crappy rims or crappy tires.

I glanced through the first page and didnt see any posts regarding budgeting for tire mounting/TPMS swap costs plus balancing (-+ $130), and alignment ($130-$170 done right) as well as tuner lug nuts ($40 to $100+) these things will be close to $300 or more that the OP is most probably not budgeting for. Just FYI

I think youll be more happy with this solution. Theres a few good guides on how to plasti dip your wheels around the web. Just watch a how to do it and make sure your surface is super clean. Dont worry about overspray. the more overspray the easier it is to clean off!

U going to go with a wild color or just be boring and do black?

wait for discount tire promotion. They often run promotion such as giving out visa gift cards up to $100.
