Correct me if I'm wrong here, but weren't all Ford Focus RS cars AWD? I remember those things in the 80's & 90's and they were crazy little cars. They had these crazy whale tales and were about as fast as fast could be. I even recall that in some European countries they were used as chase cars by the police.

You're wrong, there has never been a 4wd/awd production Focus RS. Perhaps you're thinking of WRC cars?

You're probably thinking of the Cosworth Ford Escorts. The Ford Focus wasn't in existence till the mid to late 90s and replaced the Escort.

In the Interest of the Anal Accuracy department (IotAA), the Focus was first released in 1998 to the Euro Market then the US market in 1999.

I could be wrong.

Yep, that's what I thinking about. They were tiny little cars with these huge whale tales and were rockets. I'm pretty sure I recall reading that some European countries used them as chase cars.

The UK police force did have some Escort Cosworths. They had raised suspension for mounting kerbs.

Also, new symposer Sound system incorporated to amplify engine noise in the cabin.

Fail.

The Focus ST has had it since 2005. It was mechanical back then, not sure if the latest one is electronic. Fairly certain it's not like BMW's where it comes through the speakers!

No there wasn't. The 92-96 RS2000 came in 2wd and 4wd variants. Neither were turbocharged. None of the rally versions were turbocharged either.

Look up Escort Maxi for details.

The only production turbocharged Escorts (in Europe) were the Mk3/4 RS Turbos (fwd) and the Escort Cosworth (4wd).

Why would anybody buy this, instead of the new WRX?

That car looks sick, and from what I've heard they might be should be upping the power of that bad boy. If its 300bhp stock that's going to be a killer car.

And, awd vs. fwd.

I just can't see the focus rs coming in under 26-27k... that's a lot of money for an upgraded econobox fwd.

It's still just a fwd Focus on steroids. I'm in the minority here but I'm frankly tired of hearing about new exciting cars that end up being lazy attempts at filling the gaps of long gone cars or competitive cars. If Ford would pull their heads out of their asses they would make a 2dr rwd car that would rival the BRZ. They could easily accomplish that without much difficulty.

It really is a matter of will and determination to create something great in spite of the boardroom beauracracy. See Tetsuo Tada.
