Full refund for Borla header received today, JDL UEL header has been ordered and should be getting produced and shipped to me soon.
Looking forward to finally having flat flanges and no torque dip with the added boxer rumble bonus! Last edited by ATL BRZ; 05-06-2013 at 05:16 PM. |

Have you heard any FRS/BRZ with an UEL header yet?

I've heard a few 86s with UEL headers, actually.
From mild (stock over/front/midpipe with aftermarket axleback):
& http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3_dGI1zqXQ To wild (Perrin over/front/unresonated catback): I plan to keep the volume and tone under control by leaving the stock over/front/midpipe and running the muffled axleback I've already got on the car from WORKS. Should sound similar to the two above "mild" videos. A catted front pipe, a well resonated midpipe, and rear muffler(s) together are believed to be the keys to avoiding obnoxious volume levels and rasp in the note. When I threw on my uncatted front pipe on it got loud quick. Very raspy on the EL (and I'm running the catted header). I might go with a high cat front pipe but I'm not sure yet. I don't want anything too loud, I like a little growl but more sound from the intake. I've heard a lot of UELs, they sound really good even as you open them up more and more. Interested in seeing how you like the JDL, my FA20Club made the torque dip disappear. (Hitting another dyno on saturday)

The JDL UEL header should get rid of the dip completely and with a tune it should turn it into a bump. Moto-East made 205whp with their E85 tune, JDL UEL header, Perrin Headerback and Intake so I'd expect once I get around to tuning mine that 190whp would be do-able on 93 octane gas. I wasn't daring to go catless lol. I was looking at berk's frontpipe that's catted. Yet again the sound would be "up in the air" who knows what it sound like. That being said 3-4 hp is pretty small.
Not sure if worth it.

I personally don't think it's worth it unless you're going FI and want a HFC or catless front pipe to maximize power. While n/a I'd just apply that $300 towards something else, like a header or suspension components.

Getting ready for another weekend at Road Atlanta; putting numbers on the car this time and running it in group 4 as well as instructing a group 1 student with Peachstate PCA.
Had the car aligned this morning at Gran Turismo East, great shop and they were very helpful in getting the car dialed in again. Before the alignment I had installed the new updated Whiteline Com-C top mounts as well as the RCE hollow sways. After the first track day with that setup last month I drove home with a steering wheel that was a bit off to the left while tracking dead straight. Apparently some of the harsh areas on track had knocked the rear toe way off and was causing the issue. EDITED I wanted to try a little more rear camber this time just to see how the car feels and responds to it. The front is apparently maxed out with negative camber which puzzles me. No camber bolts in the front, but I thought the Com-C top mounts would allow more than that. If anyone else has alignment settings to share with the Com-C's I'd be interested to see them and compare. ( @Racecomp Engineering ?) Anyways, the car is tracking straight when the wheel is straight now and it feels a bit tighter than before. We'll see how it goes on the track at Road Atlanta this weekend. I'm well aware of the injector seal failures that some folks are experiencing so I'm taking @mad_sb 's advice and will be trying my best to slow down my upshifts to avoid knocking via the flawed factory transient ignition retard tables. Also will be trying some Torco Accelerator (concentrated race gas) in my tank for some extra knock protection this weekend on track. Last edited by ATL BRZ; 05-30-2013 at 08:48 AM. |

Something is wrong with your caster. You've got 6.6 on one side and 3.9 on the other? Not good.
I'd expect more camber too with the COM-C mounts. - Andy |
