FR-S vs DD

Been thinking about how much I love this car and honestly I'm not sure if I can pick a better DD. So go ahead what car do you think could possibly be a better DD?

All things DD considered, cost, milage, gas, maintenance, tires, ect.

there are tons more better DDs than the FRS. You could buy new for under $15k.

You won't hit that fun factor or exterior style.

Kind of a bland question.

A civic EK hatchback. Tons of cargo, reliable as hell, cheap on gas, insurance, parts, easy to repair, etc.

It's slow as shit but still quite fun to drive.

Mazdaspeed 3 & the WRX were both considerations for me. Didn't like the MPG on the WRX (or looks, or heaviness...), and the Mazda is fwd so it wasn't much of a consideration. I also like the Golf GTI, if you'd rather more "creature comforts".

There's also your muscle cars. You can find a used(ish) Mustang GT 5.0 (go for the coyote!) for the same price as a new fr-s. Impressions: big, surprisingly hard to see out of (even compared to the camaro), GREAT engine note, good power (but didn't blow me away for some reason), and roomy. Probably a better dd if you don't care about gas...

Or, you have your standard boring cars which are all great DDs. Camry v6 would work (faster than the fr-s lol), and I like the Chevy Cruze

IMHO, it really depends on your own personal requirements in a DD. For someone that has a couple of kids and a large dog, and needs to haul them around regularly, there are lots of things that are a better choice.

If all you need is a two-door with a reasonable amount of cargo space, then the FR-S starts to look a lot better. If you want something that's fun to drive too, then you might just be right.

Frs is a great dd, 31 mpg average, on ramps after a long day at work put a big smile on my face, and being nimble in traffic to weave around slow SUVs helps as well.

The only downside is door dings and rock chips.....

For a cost-conscious but fun daily driver, I think the Honda Fit and Mazda 2 would be great. Mazda 3 as well. This is not to discourage you from getting an FR-S, but saying it's the best daily driver is a stretch. Might be the best RWD daily driver though.

^^ This ^^

It all comes down to what is practical for you. Keep in mind -trips with friends, if you like camping stuff like that.

As a daily driver though, not much other sporty cars quite compare to the fr-s. Sure you give up some practicality, but its really not bad unless you do huge loads of groceries and large camping trips every weekend kind of thing. Then I'd say look for a hatch.

For myself, I like camping (if you didn't notice lol) but can fit all my gear for me + soon to be wife in my fr-s. That's good enough for me! I was heavily considering a hatch when purchasing, but I just loved the fr-s so much and for a daily driver it has plenty of practicality for me.

Previous mention of a Honda Fit is spot on. Clearly nowhere near FR-S level, but quite fun in its own right. Good on gas (could hit 43mpg in my 2008 Fit auto) and it's amazing what would fit with the seats down. Ultimately traded it in on the wife's 2010 Forester (and I took the 2006 Impreza) after we had our first kid, but for a DD it was a great car.

But there is no perfect answer. It all depends on your needs in a DD.
