IMO the afternarket overpipe looks pretty similar to the stock ones. Read up on the Perrin blogs, a lot of good info. It's just a bent pipe that connects the header to the front pipe, no resonator, no secondary cat etc, jus a bent pipe. Mine is stock still.

looks similar but with all the kinks and bends and being only 2.18" vs 2.5" and smooth, the stock one is somewhat of a restriction.

i would suggest header, overpipe, and front pipe(HFC) + Drop in and Tune. should be within a $2500 budget and will be your best bet (performance/cost) wise.

cat-back (for sound more than anything) as you can afford it, and then start reducing drivetrain/rotating mass, (flywheel, driveshaft, pulleys, wheels and tires) later on to help a little bit.

Not really looking for a cat-back.. I'm happy with the total WHP gained already, and the catted header, over/front pipe setup has given the car a nice quiet aftermarket-like exhaust sound too.

I spent $1680 total for the CAI ($245), catted header ($950), overpipe ($225), and resonated front pipe ($260). You'll have to add in shipping too of course if you don't go there to pick up the parts.

You should budget in for a tune too. You might be able to get it cheaper depending on who or where you go locally, but I spent $850 for FA20club's Ecutek tune.. and an additional $750 for the Flex fuel kit & E85 tune.

I was wondering about that Flex Fuel kit that FA20Club sells. What is the deal with that. Do they have a FF tune? Is it just in anticipation for a Flex Fuel tune to come? Or do you still need it to run straight E85?

Also, do tuners allow you to buy the tune without the license/cable if you are willing and able to go by their shop? Will they download it for you with their own hard/software? The cable & license are 2/3 the price of the tune. I live only about 20 minutes away from the FA20Club guys, I'd much rather spend five or six buck on gas to go down there than 600 on the cable and license. Especially if they can get me on a dyno for a truly customized tune for a little more $$$.

You have to buy the license. The cable is optional.

Nice! Great alternative since I and others live out in California. I am looking forward to hearing more about the turbo! Any modest boost builds in mind? 5-7 psi, perhaps?

If you're looking for reliability i'd stay away from FI. 25hp/tq is easily attainable from headers exhaust and a good tune.

catted headers aren't a good option for several reasons. first, the power gained has to do with runner length and flow. Second no real options are available. Third, the cat my breakup and cause problems.

Nameless one piece dp/op $500
RevWorks headers 699 JDL/P&L Namless (say no to borla/agency/hks)
Catback 500-1000 various
BRZ edit $500
Kartboy Crank pully $90
Drop in filter $50

I have about the same budget and similar goals.
Personally i'd wait on the headers and do it at the same time as a tune. Get the dp/op catted as it doesn't need a tune.

Just my $.02

I believe this is true only if it has an O2 bung after the cat, so the 2nd O2 sensor can be moved there.

Only the cable is optional.. but that'll still save you $250. And if you get your car tuned on the dyno (like I did), you won't really need the cable to log any data for tuning purposes anyway.

With the flex fuel kit, you'll only need one tune for both 93 octane and E85.. there won't be a separate map for E85 & 93 because the Ethanol sensor will let the ECU know what % of your fuel is ethanol. From what I understand, an E85 tune is good for any E70 or above, the 'regular' 93 tune is E15 or below.. and the flex fuel kit simply lets you run anything from E15 to E70.

Right now, I have to keep switching back between my 93 map & E85 map (via the cruise control lever), which only takes a few seconds so it doesn't bother me, but I just want to be able to fill up with 93 or E85, no matter how much gas is left in my tank.. Without the flex fuel kit, it's recommended you run your tank close to empty before switching fuels.

Having said all that, you should confirm with the tuner any questions you have.. The info I just posted is just from what I remember reading and from what I've been told.

I meant without a header... I believe most aftermarket catted dp's have the same o2 placement as stock.
