So graduating from Tech on saturday! And the boss is processing the papers for me to transfer to a perm position. Bad news, I think i might have broke something today at work, needa check that out tomorrow lol.

Anyways, I'm pretty much decided on picking up a 86 of some sort this year

I'm pretty much stuck between either getting the base of base model (barebones fr-s) or a brz limited.

Factoring in subaru vip and the toyota grad rebate, the difference between the 2 models is about ~$2000, which isn't too much of a difference but the thing is, I don't feel like any of the limited stuff is that desirable to me or is pretty useless in GA.

The synthetic leather feels like my china bought cheapo iphone case, and leather tends to get quite hot in cars. Alcantara feels nice though! Heated seats? I don't feel like i've ever felt my ass was cold in the 20 years i've lived here even when it's snowing... but i might just wear thick pants. push to start is cool though. Don't see why i need a nav system when i got an iphone that's better.

Any of ya with limited's think differently after having one for a bit?

Also, price and demand fluctuates regionally, how much did y'all pay for your brz's in GA? (not including tax).

Is it even possible to get fr-s's down below msrp with all that pure pricing stuff?

ty!

If you don't care for the leather & push-start.. and if heated seats and auto-climate control is a RARELY used feature when you drive (like with me) then just go for the Premium BRZ model.

I never thought the Limited BRZ was worth the extra $$ over the Premium, but the Premium is defintely worth the extra $$ over the FR-S. The blacked-out HID headlights, LED running lights (looks much more awesome/exotic approaching from a distance), standard NAV system, premium cloths seat texture (feels alot more expensive than the FR-S seats), and (much overlooked IMO) red side reflector tail lights.. those 5 things are worth the extra ~$1.5K over the FR-S already IMO.

If you can find a BRZ Premium for ~$1K over the FR-S price, jump on it! ..Don't rule out buying (and shipping) the model you want from another state. I saved $1K+ and a 5-month long wait buying from out of state.. it was honestly the BEST new car buying experience I ever had.

HIDS (High Intensity Discharge) lights tend to be brighter and have more visible light.

(CAUTION: Opinion Ahead) For some reason some folks seem to get all wrapped around having them. I think to some extent it's a personal preference. I've driven cars with both and frankly don't think they are worth the extra cost/effort and think they are almost too bright. They mess up my night vision more for peripheral areas. (/End Opinion)

The only thing I would change if I could is black chrome on the headlights rather than all bright chrome, just think it looks better. I don't want it enough to go through the trouble of baking them open though. If someone came up with a reasonably priced plug-n-play swap I might consider it.

It has nothing to do with the HID themselves. Our projectors are not made for HID bulbs so there is no clear cut off which means that some of the light shines a little high. I have HID's myself, but I didn't do the retrofit. I really do not see much glare from them.

so if I survived until now fine on halogen bulbs, then my life wouldn't change drastically without them right? I mean the fr-s can still do high beam mode right?

In my opinion, yes, but is just my opinion. A lot of folks are spending money that would probably argue otherwise. And yes, it has high beams that I think I've used once in a year of ownership.

You may have misinterpreted what I was saying. When I said I've driven cars with both, I didn't mean 86s, I just meant in general. I understand replacing just the lamps in the current projectors is not the best idea. If someone insists on HIDs they really should do a full retrofit or replace the headlights altogether.

Adding HIDs to a car's headlight housing that was not designed/intended for that type of light can be dangerous. More times than not (not for projectors, but for reflector type housings), it actually distorts the light output, making your sight less than how it was designed/intended.

It can also be highly distracting/partially blinding to oncoming traffic or if you come up behind someone in traffic.

Retrofit kits have become cheap enough in price, but still have the quality of an OE look that it's worth it to do at the same time as adding a quality HID bulb/ballast/etc...

Yea, it's not a necessity thing.. HID's just look cooler IMO. Honestly, I'd pay $1K to get rid of the chrome look in the headlight housing itself.. but that's just me. The chrome in the tailights are on there way out too on mine's.

If none of that matters to you, just get the cheaper car.. Usually, the look of the front bumper & guages is enough for most people to make up their mind on choosing between the twins. Have a seat in both and you'll probably immediately know which one you prefer.

I've been leaning towards that kit purely for the boxer rumble it seems to produce.

Yep, great bunch of folks! I met with them in person right after I got my 1st86 because they wanted to see one in person. Great quality work, would definitely been the way to go if I was going to do it.
