Good catch, didn't even notice the extended front overhang. Wonder if that means the engine is mounted further forward.

Now if the VW's in NA were actually made in Germany...

I have seen it said that there is no comparison in quality between a VW made in Mexico and one made in Germany.

I know too many people who have had quality issues with their VWs, my brother being one of them.

The GTI for NA has always been built in Germany. It scares me too that this model will be built in Mexico.

That front overhang is quite unattractive. I'm waiting on the new Audi A3's to come out, they look great to me and should be pretty quick.

They have released some details on the next gen TT also, looks pretty impressive from what i've seen.
third gen TT
"We still only have rumors about the third-generation Audi TT said to be scheduled for launch in late 2014, but based on a report in Car and Driver, we know a tiny bit more about it. The base engine will be the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with direct injection, but horsepower is said to be 220 horsepower – that would make for a nine-hp jump over the current output. The TTS would get an even larger power boost, going from 265 currently to 300 hp. The TT RS would stick with it's 2.5-liter five cylinder, with output increased from 360 to 380 hp. If Audi includes a nice dose of the go-light engineering involved in the TT Ultra Quattro, these horsepower numbers might be even more impressive."

Those front overhang comparison shots aren't really equal though. They look shot from different angles with different lenses.

On the subject of origination, my GTI was in the shop a couple of times for issues. My wife's Jetta, built in Mexico, never had a single problem.

Engine note

Listen to this - in-car at 1:07 - wow:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ6ZW4xpqKE"]this[/ame]

- honestly, the GTI MK7 sounds SO much better than the twins... . get off your ass Subaru and fix the in-cabin engine note - right now it's a complete turn-off. (Ok that may be a bit overstated.) Even the Toyo chief 86 engineer commented to a journo that it needed work.

The mk6 GTI's used a "soundaktor" to create the engine sound. Basically a vibrating/buzzing device attached to the firewall that created a fake engine note. Sounded decent (to me anyway), but a bunch of owners on the forums were pissed off when they found out the engine note was fake, and started ripping out their soundaktors.

Wonder if the mk7's are using the same thing.

I like the MK6 headlights better. This one looks like it's got dark circles underneath..

Agreed on the farts bit - just listened to some clips of the various replacement exhaust systems for the twins, they pretty much all sound like riced-over garbage. But silent? Try driving a street sports car in a sim and turn the engine sound off - nothing on acceleration. No thanks.

A VW (with their history of electrical/wiring issues) being assembled in Mexico...sounds promising
