They kicked me out of RTA Enthusiast for using a Recaro SPG with OEM 3 point, even after showing them that the 3 point properly holds me, and that the SPG lowers my seating position enough where I'm well within the broomstick test.
Stock seat + helmet doesn't pass broomstick. Go figure. |

I have a question.. I run my track events with my 700$ Aria motorcycle helmet.. I understand the reasoning of using a proper smell spec helmet for being in a car.. That my bike helmet only gets "one good hit" my question is, in a stock car say like mine, why am I wearing a helmet.. It seems that it's more dangerous as your head has to have that extra weight to throw your head around.. Of course neck rolls and Hans help with that.. But just requiring a helmet seem worse with no other protection, then not wearing one before.. My ex was in a roll over that flipped three times.. She got out with a little cut on her toe from the pedal.. I saw a guy have a one roll roll over and his neck has hurting.. True, two different cars, two different circumstances, but he said his head did jerk around a lot.. Riding with mike and robispec I can feel the extra weight if the helmet.. I just think if your going to have to wear a helmet they should require so e sort of neck brace too
Maybe you more experience racers and track drivers can help give me some insight Thanks |

From my experience you can get whip lash easier but you will most likely survive. Snell rated is puncture resistant because most people do not survive having their skull punctured. On a bike normally the rider and the bike are separated in a crash so blunt force on the ground is the biggest concern. In a car it is the sharp shredded metal the helmet is protecting you from. This is what I have been told when I asked the same question.

The only real difference between a motorcycle and car helmet, is the opening and a fire test.
Unless the standards changed from when I purchased my helmet. |

I've been told the different snell test with the car helmet is because it can take multiple impacts where as the bike helmet is suppose to be just one.. And of course a hard impact, every since I got to racing bikes in early 2000 they stress even if we drop a helmet, to junk it and buy a new one..

full oem OR Full aftermarket You got caught in the "HYBRID ZONE" the issue wasn't was it safe were you safer the issue was your system didn't comply with the rules. Tech/safety checks need ZERO interpertation room... Either OEM engineering or Full Race engineering We went round and round on this when writing the rules and redline doesn't want to be put in the position of "certifing" a given "Hybrid" So OEM or you are "ALL IN" Robi |
