What kind of gas?

What fuel is everyone running in their FR-S/BRZ? I've always had the best, most repeatable performance and driveability with Chevron Supreme. It's 91 octane and I think has a higher concentration of Techron than the lower grades.

In a pinch I'll use Shell. Not sure of the octane rating, maybe 92, but driveability in other cars with moderately high CR's hasn't been up to Chevron standards. Shell always made the engines feel "soft" in the midrange, and with the twins already having a rep for that, don't want to add to it.

Just planning ahead, I won't have the car until June but thought I'd look for user experience with this car's surprisingly high CR. I don't want to add any fuel enhancers, just looking for the best pump gas in Oregon, thanks.

Edit: Oops, n/m, found the correct thread. Looks like I'll be sticking with Chevron Supreme.

I used Costco gas for the longest time, then when I finally tried Shell I totally noticed a difference. Well, it just ran much smoother... That's considered a big difference, right? lol

I don't mean to be a d!ck, but I'm calling BS on this. There is no way that your engine was knocking from the ARCO gas, especially with only two gallons. You understand that the differences between gasoline brands are incredibly minute right? The "octane rating" (which by definition is the resistance to knocking of a given fuel) is mandated by law and 92 at "Station A" is the same octane as 92 at "Station B"! The only difference between the two is the additive detergent packages blended by the retailer. These detergents do not effect the fuel's propensity towards knocking.

There are a limited number of refineries, and they all produce the same base gasolines sold to every retailer. The retail brand then blends in their detergent. I'm not saying that the detergent packages don't make a difference at all, they surely do. But any difference in "butt dyno" feel or perceived knocking is entirely a placebo response occurring in your brain.
