I see used FRS going for $23k all over.
we had a guy here not too long ago selling his FRS with 2k miles for $21.5K.
as always Subarus hold their value really well but the scion u can get with a little patience.

That's why you see people paying similar prices for a used vehicle while passing on a slightly higher new version of the same vehicle, because they couldn't get approved.
excellent point and completely overlooked by me.this is accurate, because if someone has ''marginal" credit,or no credit even, but has adequate income to support the note, then banks will not oppose the loan (used),although the interest rate will be much higher, and "generally" for a longer term. as one can easily understand how this can strengthen the market for used cars that are in demand,by artificially raising the value of those cars due to ''acceptance" of that higher value by people with less than stellar credit, enabling them to purchase the car.

op "specifically" stated "new" this is what prompted me to ask how he is able to purchase the scion at a reduced price!....

Patience and persistence, and maybe a little bit of catching the right dealer at the right time. Offered them 23,500 a few times during the week, to which they responded that they couldn't haggle on the price, then that they could come down a bit but not that far, then to "ok, but you have to bank through our bank so we get the kickback."

Turns out there bank had better rates than I was finding elsewhere. Win/Win. I think they really needed to move a few Scion units this month and were in a bit of a bind.

I was offered 320 + taxes a month, for 75 months at 3.9% finance rate with a $2000 down payment! Which works out the price of a used FR-S at about $26,720 final price! Considering my scion dealer is offering a .9% financing rate!

And generally speaking, you'll pay a higher interest rate on a used car loan vs a new car loan. It might be enough to negate any "haggling" down on the price that might justify a used purchase instead of new.

But like you say - if your credit score lacks, the decision is kind of made for you.
