Here in Australia used Toyota 86s tend to be about 4000 more than brand new. I think at any one time less than 10% on sale are actually priced below RRP.

If they don't pure price their used vehicles then try to negotiate that down to $20k if they give you shit just roll off to the next dealer and buy new. With 17k miles I'd have to have at least $3k off sticker.

That is exactly my thinking. If people argue that once you buy a new car an drive it off the lot it automatically looses 20% of its value, so a used FR-S should be around 20k rightfully. What is happening now is that, these vehicles are produced in limited volume, that is causing the prices to remain high, even for a used car.

I Can understand if BRZ maintains this high price, considering BRZs are produced in more limitation than the FR-S. I think dealers are just looking for a desperate chum to make quick bucks off of.

Average drive-off depreciation isn't 20% though. It's more like 6-9%. They start high because most people still expect to haggle.

Does it make sense for the dealer or buyer who's aware of the market price to sell/buy car knowing what a new one costs?

Are the dealers that insane or stupid that someone could buy a used car for essentially for the price of new car?
no! they are NOT insane,it's the dumb mother f**ker consumer who WILL buy it at that price!.all the dealer can do is go fishin',and try! offer 'em $20,000,and if they balk, split the difference, and take it home for $22,000

this is true, however a lot of "disturbed" people will pay 'em the $24k so they believe they can get it!..just sayin'

Loans for used cars are easier to secure than new loans...especially for people with little or no credit.

That's why you see people paying similar prices for a used vehicle while passing on a slightly higher new version of the same vehicle, because they couldn't get approved.

We bought ours used private party (much, much less sales tax) with 2600 miles for thousands less than a new one). Id say what we paid, but it would make everyone upset.

When I retired from the real world I got my dream job for a while selling motorcycles. I would make two to three times the commission off of a used bike sale than I would make off a new bike sale. Of course that was a long time ago. If things are any where near the same today, the money is in the used market.

Got my 6MT used. Around 8000 miles for around $22k. Came the fancy (but useless) Bespoke radio.

Fortunately/unfortunately the dealership I went to has this price structure on all their used cars where you aren't allow to haggle, but prices are very fair.

I got mine used with 5k miles for $23,900. On the plus side it became a certified used vehicle so it had a 7yr 100k mile warranty instead of the 5yr 60k. Not that I really care. I plan on voiding the warranty as soon as possible, lol.
