one big thing is that lowering springs and coilovers have springs that are smaller diameter than stock so the tire has more inner clearance

if it will rub out side? don't know.

it's generally only coilovers that give more room because of smaller springs, Even if replacement springs were smaller, the spring perch would still be in the way.

When lowering I did install the camber plate in the negative camber position, putting me at roughly -2 degrees. That surely helps keep the top of the tire tucked under the fender. As such, installing coilovers will help with inner clearance but it may very well require camber plates to get outer clearance like mine.

If you aren't going with coilovers then I am honestly not sure how wide you can go but doubt it ill be anywhere near 255.

I ordered mine today. I wanted black but needed a 35 offset so it looks like 10mm spacers are in my future.

I did 17x9 +45 with 245/40/17 Dunlop Direzzas

I'm in the same bucket. Don't know if I want ET35 or ET45. I have eibach springs that lower me an inch, not sure if that will make it more inclined to rub. I don't care about poke. I like the wide tire look.

I really don't want to install camber plates, and I don't want to use a spacer. I have never had a good experience with coilovers either, for any of my previous cars.

Maybe I should stick with a 17x8 :-(

I assume this was on stock suspension, any rubbing? did you put 5mm spacers on this one?
