Happening to mine, and I live in SoCal. Did the wire brush thing, but was only mildly effective. Going to get a wire wheel and put some power to it next time. Don't want to paint mine though, I never liked how painted stock calipers looked personally. Just going to burn thru these brakes with a few more track days until I can get a Brembo BBK

IMO the wire wheel might be overkill for something as small and light as this. I usually use an acid based etchant (Something like Eastwood Fast Etch comes to mind), neutralize, and then the appropriate adhesion promoter (if necessary), primer then finish.

How much for those bad boys? They look big enough to stop a car twice as big as the FR-S.

Frick... A lot of calipers seem to do this. But amazingly the cast iron calipers on my 99 Eclipse don't have any rust on them and I've driven through several salty winters. Maybe there is some truth to that "back in the day" statement. But I wouldn't paint them red or anything. I love red aluminum fixed calipers but painted sliders look a bit strange to me.

very typical from cast iron calipers and its to be expected, its surface rust really and wont harm your calipers short term. Also the condition can be exacerbated by brake dust, humidity, and salt, but that's besides the point.

Heavy brake cleaner, and a brush will clean it right up, when your done lay some caliper paint on it. Then you want have to deal with it any more.

For those people who say "back in the day" stuff with iron calipers. To limit rust, some manufacturers smooth out the surface on the calipers so there are no pitted areas so rust can accumulate. Notice most iron calipers that do rust quickly are very rough and course. It also has to do with the iron materials used, some irons do not rust as quickly as others, i know there are some metallurgists in this forum and can chime in on the different grades of iron used in brake calipers.
