fellow DRIVE junkies,
at the risk of juggling too many balls at once, I've also been playing around with this idea in my head, of doing some kind of logo/design to distinguish us as DRIVE members. I came up with a few ideas and wanted to bounce them off of you guys. Nothing's set in stone here, and right now, nothing is offered for sale. I don't really intend to be a vendor on here as this isn't really my line of work, just doing some amateur designing. But I guess if enough interest develops I might turn the final design(s) into something you can buy, perhaps a sticker, a mug, or a t-shirt that sort of thing. For now though, just trying to get some feedback on design ideas. Let me know what you think!

Design #1

Design #2

Design #3

oh, and you're probably wondering what the Latin phrase means....
"Fast Friends at Dawn" :happy0180:

Haha, the group is getting bigger and no longer just 3-4 guys getting up at the buttcrack o dawn, lol. I like the designs, but liking #2 the most, #3 seems like it would make a good sig. Like mentioned waaay back, love the latin!

I would be cool if we could get this as a white vinyl sticker, I'd definitely get one!

Design #2 could be pretty cool with some fine tuning. I like the tach and the three cars in front of it like that.

Instead of the Latin phrase though I think some iteration of "Dawn Patrol" would be cooler.

Awesome that you just effortlessly cranked out these designs, someone knows their way around Adobe Illustrator!

Funny enough my earliest version did say "Dawn Patrol" but I took it out... seemed a little too cliche. I think the Latin gives it some mystery, and makes it a conversation piece... like if you're wearing it on a shirt, hot chicks will come up and ask you what it means.

Haha it wasn't exactly effortless. I guess it might have been if I had been using Illustrator, but I am more familiar with PhotoShop.

Will have to see if vinyl is feasible... I don't know much about it but I have a feeling the design is too complex/detailed to translate into vinyl well. Maybe it will require some simplification...

I like #3 for a vinyl (and I have a buddy who does vinyl if we need someone). #2 would make a sick shirt, but I think the banner makes it look a little cheesy. Maybe drop the banner and swap the top and bottom wording? Just my opinion (time for poll? lol)

Also what about a saying like "We drive at dawn? Cliche a bit, but still epic sounding. haha

just all thoughts. I think the whole thing is dope either way.

Oh man I really like this idea. I was thinking we should have different stickers/shirts/merch for those of us who are up early for drives every weekend.

I could see so many directions you could go with this... something like a band tour shirt (roads we've driven with dates next to them), shirts with slogans like "Why up at the buttcrack of dawn on a Saturday? Because BRZ/FR-S drive" (needs tweaking obviously), a shirt with overlaid maps of all the roads we've driven (something like the McLaren P1 camouflage), etc, etc.

As for the mockups above... I like #2, but is there anyway you could incorporate something like a twisty road or like one of those road signs that indicates winding roads for however many miles ahead? Maybe it would look too busy, but I think it needs something to indicate what kind of driving we're doing.

My sig is too full as is. lol

but we should get on this idea before 86 expo. Id like to have a shirt to wear each day.

I like the "tour" idea, i guess we have a running log of it on this thread, haha. I like the idea of the overlaid routes, but might be tricky since they're not really compact like the circuits on the P1.

I like the "twisty road ahead" sign idea, maybe could be over laid somewhere? Thinking pointing towards the "rising sun" shift light? Sure, could make it too busy, there's a reason I'm no graphic

Also, PMok, hope you don't mind but I've given this idea over to my coworker/co-designer to run with. He's come up with some good ideas, and he comes up with some awesome fonts too that should work for this. Just to be sure, the official "club" name is Norcal 86 Drive?

Regards to #3: I almost want to ask PMok to 'bold' the Scion in the rear (left most car) and 'unbold' the BRZ and GT86. AND if I may use that edit as my sig. I'm all over that Scion coming forward but remaining in the rear.

I'd like that edit/sig on a shirt and hoodie too. I don't know any personal shirt printer but I did run across a shirt artist (from Fremont) when she visited my kid's school during art/crafts day. I gave her an idea and to make a die is ~100. Something along the lines of an outlined twin blah blah...the more complicated the design/die the closer to ~100 it will cost. And I can just order the apparel from her (Fremont). I think design #3 does that, for me.
