Maybe they'll switch it to an electroluminescent white or red light.

Some of us actually want to buy the car soon and I'd going Scion if I *knew* I could get what I wanted.. but I don't.. so I can't go put a deposit down. So instead I either have to just do so at Subaru, or do so at both and take back one of the deposits later. Or I can wait until January and *hope* that they'll actually release real information, specs, etc at that time unlike what they've done at TMS which was really just letting us get videos and close up pics of the JDM model cars... nice, but that's not specs, options, pricing, etc.
This is true. It seems like they themselves dont even know what options they will have at this point in time. I would think that they should know this! Even their build a FT-86 feature on the site is silly. the only choice i had was to pick the colour and then tranny. pretty useless..............

for certainty's sake, subaru is the best bet for now. Mind you, they havent released their USDM specs yet, so even that is up in the air!

They suck. Badly... we have a set for the race car that we threw in the trash they were so bad.

To do a real HID conversion you need the proper projectors and all so you are looking at several hundred dollars minimum.

that was my hidden point its not a simple little $50 fix to make them like OEM spec, it takes much more. In Ontario, Canada, if I remember correctly, you cannot just pop in HIDs, you need to have the projector housing to be legal. If i put in HID bulbs into my sunfire, i would bling the hell out of everyone!!!

All the performance items are still on the car. The LSD will be there, the rear brakes are vented, and the suspension hasn't been reported to be changed. This is what we were promised: an elemental sports car without doodads. It's the low spec, but without the solid rear discs that might have slightly limited the low spec's performance potential.

The Scion version is basically the no-nonsense all performance version of the platform. Bravo Scion!

I hope projector retrofits will become popular for this car!

Judging by those pics, it looks like a halogen projector so just throwing an HID kit on there will be hit or miss in terms of performance until somebody tries it.

now wait a second........... what the hell is going on with this HID stuff?
you guys want HID ( has nothing to do with the headlights) or you guys want different headlights?

HID means High-intensity discharge lamps.

And what the hell is halogen projectors?
There are Halogen lamps and projectors.
halogen looks like this:

projector just like what the gt86, frs brz comes with

why would you need to retrofit this?
Either Im going crazy or you guys don't even know what you talking about!

Their MO is not to deliver $30k sports/performance cars, but to deliver under $20k so you can make it into a $30k "whatever" you want.

So again, what is "not going far enough". They are #1 in reliability.
"not going far enough" as in the tC is a slightly sported up econocar. on the other hand, the FR-S is a true sports coupe built from the ground up. imagine the impact scion would have had if they never offered the tC but the FR-S instead?

That photo of the FR-S with a white tach is likely of the heavily modded FR-S on display (the one with the blue seat accents) which MT shows in several of its photos, and its display is not representative of the production model...the official press hi-res 8000 X 5000 release photo of the IP (download the press kit from the scionfrs web site) definitely shows the tach having white numerals, bordered in black, on a grey/silver background. Of course this could change by the NAIAS...

Only thing I can't see are the toggle switches and hvac. WAY TO GO TOYOTA i mean SCION!

I hate to add to this thread of total fail, but there is one thing that I think needs to be said.

Everyone from outside of North America must be reading this and think that we are all just a bunch of big cry babies.

I can totally understand, and appreciate, some people initially voicing their disappointment in the minor comforts that have been changed from the JDM version of the car; but repeating and attacking each other for close to 50 pages? Come on guys!

I think that we all can agree here that there is still a lot to be learned here (price and options), and jumping to conclusions is completely useless. What has been said has been said, now lets focus on what we do have.

I can't even count all of the posts that I have seen from people in other countries who say they pay out the nose for cars, I am sure that if they had a Scion option they would be very happy for the break on their wallets.

Lets all make an effort to keep this site as classy as possible. I plan on keeping my FRS or BRZ for a long while, and with that I would like FT86club.com to be the place to go when I am looking for advice or to drool over someones set up.

All and all, the Scion reveal has not been a shining example of the membership of this site, or North America for that matter (in fairness our Canadian members seem to have been a little less vocal in my observations.)

.... Ok let the shouting match continue.
