yeah the ones I have been using are Cobra. But any radio that supports the FRS frequencies should work, however I'm sure the more expensive ones will have a little better transmission/reception. FYI I have been using channel 6 - as you get into the higher channels not every radio supports them. There are also ones that support subchannels like 6.1 6.2 etc. but I tend to use the main channels because it's easier and more people will have radios that support them. The downside is that the lower/simpler channels are popular and you will get cross talk in busy areas... probably not so much a problem on our back roads though.

I am thinking a scouting run on Saturday afternoon, around the same time that we would be doing the run on the 27th. roughly 2-3pm. Would prefer to not have it be a big group though, as it is meant to be a scouting run and I may stop sporadically to check for stopping points or photo locations etc. Everyone will get to drive it on the meet day soon enough. Those of you interested in helping be a lead or tail car on the 27th, are welcome to join me though and it would be best if you had a radio though not required.

Yeah, I have the subchannels on mine, but a lot of people dont have them. For the price and the bit extra range it came with though I figured better to have it and not ise them often than not be able to at all

If you've got it, use it. I woulda jumped my pants if you had suddenly joined it lol. I kinda like the ones with a headpiece option.

Radio idea is great. I've looked for my pair so a buddy must still have mine (long ago). Time for a new pair.

Funny, those are the ones that I was looking at. Where'd you get yours? Any complaints?

Hah! I was looking at those too. Actually ended up having my wife work the radio the rest of the time since I was rather "preoccupied" . I figured it would be easier to work the radio alone if I had one. They get kinda pricey tho...

Yeah when I bought mine I considered the voice activated headset but given the fact that i was driving a convertible with loud exhaust, I figured the noise would have it activated all the time.

Who knows, I'm sure the tech has advanced some since then.

LOL! I was so tempted but I didn't want it to be awkward. But I remember the times where you were talking and nobody would answer lol.

I got mines from amazon. I havent had any problems with them so far. Range is good, probably won't ever get the max range out of them but I think they will do. They have quite a bit of features on them and they also come with a car charger a believe and also headsets

Actually a few times we just heard noises, lol, so my wife and I just looked at each other and went . Figured we might have been maxing out the range on P's radios.

hmmn yeah I imagine in the canyons the radios may have a range of 1-3 miles at best. will have to see how they do on Mines. One idea is that if we have cars with radios in the middle, they act as repeater:

Lead car: "Slow down, cow on the roadway"
Middle Car: "Roger that, slow down cow on the roadway"
Tail car: "what? Hamburgers?"
