Scion have always had intake / exhaust / rims / spoilers as part of packages / options...

So no they're not always cosmetic...

look at the options for the tC, all crappy rice products and overpriced TRD stuff. it comes with projector beams standard, but you cant even get HIDs on the tC. monospec my ass!!!

its cheaper for toyota to have as little REAL options as possible. shitty appearance mods can be dealer installed and they charge you up the ass for the "labor" of applying double sided tape and a couple of screws...

i agree i was afraid they'd sacrafice performance for looks.

thats the thing i don't get that people are bitching about. they didnt change anything mechanically. you can't get everything you want in life so just be happy that the tape deck looking CD player will come out easy.

It's probably because plenty of people haven't owned a Scion before and although it may seem somewhat disconcerting initially, the bottom trim is what always gets manufactured. What people will understand later is the options that will accommodate the FR-S.

Will there be an optional interior? Dunno, but probably not because Subaru doesn't want a car they developed with a different badge to cannibalize their nameplate.

Can I get a push-button start? If there is an RS version, maybe. Manufacturing of an electronic fob is probably as expensive, but again with the Subaru characteristic...don't cannibalize the BRZ

Well...upgraded anything from the factory? Fo Realz...Subaru BRZ cannibalization argument

Waaahhh!! I wanted to get LED DRL's though... Guess where I'm going? That's right, Subaru BRZ sales cannibalization.

As many others have mentioned, get the BRZ if you want all of those things. But don't complain when my car has much better aftermarket accessories on them for the same as you paid for your BRZ

Right... Because the Japanese and Europeans can get everything they want in this car and the American's can't?

BULLSHIT

Wow...ok...

Whiners and idiots -

I think a lot of you are being a little insensitive to people that actually want the options. Calling them whiners and idiots. They have a legitimate right to complain after seeing the JDM versions and then being let down by a lesser product.

The manufactures should not tell us what we want but rather give us the option of getting what we want. This way one person can buy the cheapest FR-S they want and another person can buy the most expensive one they want.

It should be about having options. And no, buying the BRZ is not an option when someone has their heart set on buying the exact same GT 86 Japan gets.

Aftermarket -

This idea that "oh there's the aftermarket and all these missing parts will be easily available from Toyota". Or, "Buy the BRZ for the premium option."

My experience tells me some parts yes, some parts not so much.

I own a 2011 Mazda 2. The rest of the world comes with HID Projector Headlights but not in the US. You would think that I could just go buy them directly from Mazda right? WRONG. Mazda will not sell them to the US market at all. And if i do buy the HID Projector Headlights from another country Mazda will void my warranty if I install them. In fact, Mazda will NOT install them even though they are 100% a genuine Mazda part.

So who is to say that this same thing will not happen with the Scion?

Scion Canada: The pictures here are of a prototype. Actually production vehicle trim options are being finalized and will be announced at a later time. We'll let you know the minute we hear. Shift light in the tach would be amazing

yeah but we've already seen the available optional equipment for the japanese domestic market. i don't care how crap scion is, why WOULDN'T they have the same options available here? it just doesn't make business sense. don't want to cannibalize subaru sales? that doesn't make a lot of sense, toyota/scion is gonna sit back and watch as subaru makes all the money from the expensive optional equipment? i don't think so. i'm reserving my judgement until info on pricing and options becomes available.

Toyota Australia website a waste of time

Toyota Australia's website is near a joke when it comes to the GT86.

Apart from it exists forget it.
I signed up at least 6 months ago to be informed guess what nothing!

Thank God this club exists.

We are the mushrooms of the world down here.

Keep up the great work.

Cheers:happy0180:

I think it's a little different in my case but Toyota America doesn't sell the projector headlights my car came with in the Japanese model. All the US dealerships I know of won't sell them or carry them yet you can buy them on eBay. You can buy and install them yourself. Easily.

Now, my memory might be wrong but a dealer can't void your warranty unless they can prove that your modification caused an issue that wouldn't have happened if you kept the stock part. I wouldn't be so worried about Mazda's bluff...or any manufacturer's.

The only thing that must stay true... is that if this car is going to look cheap...

IT NEEDS TO BE CHEAP!

The simplicity of it is very appealing to me though.
This is not an AE86...its a FR-S...totally different. This car don't have to look cheap...the Toyota 86 and BRZ don't.

WOW the scion is so awesome guys

Things I like on the scion...
1- The headlighs/taillights
2- The manual AC controls
3- The side vents
3- No push to start button

I'm already going for the BRZ, but if I was in the US I'd go for the FR-S.... you guys in USA are lucky for having the FR-S.

Just a quick quesyion guys? will the push to start be an option for the GT86, and the BRZ? cuz if so, then I'd order mine without the push to start option
