On my test drive of a 6A/T, the supremely overconfident salesboy told me:

"This has 245 horsepower, same as a Mazdaspeed 3 and almost as fast" (The car he currently owns)

"I don't know why the shift lever moves sideways" (I showed him and then demonstrated the paddle shift and rev match feature I'd only read about)

"The rear seats do not fold down" (I believed him until finding the trunk straps and just for laughs pulled on one and the seatback of course dropped flat)

In fairness, he'd been a car salesman a little short of two weeks. I gently suggested he take some brochures home to study at night and check out this site, but he was busy texting his GF.

I am constantly amazed at how stupid some of these sales guys are. Most aren't car guys. Whenever I shop for a car I do my research and always ask a fairly obscure question about the car to see if they know what they are talking about. Any good salesman has to have product knowledge.

Manual FRS and BRZ will sale to the enthusiast. There aren't a lot of those in the market. First year sales will likely be more manual than automatic (maybe). Once the enthusiast market is sold though......

Automatics will sale to all the kids that can't drive manuals, to the 30+ fems wanting the "cute" little car at the dealership, and to people that just simply don't want a manual. There are many, many more of these.

I'd love to see the sales split auto vs. manual.

Wow, you sure know a lot about people who buy Autos.

Tell me, is that your day job? Because you sure as hell suck at it.

The things dealers/salespeople say to make a buck...is it a wonder people don't trust them?

I love it when they try arguing about features/options I KNOW that the car doesn't have...

Scion guy told this to me a few months back: "Oh yeah, there's an interior upgrade option for the FRS, but we don't have any in stock, we have to order it from the factory...put down a deposit and I'll get one for you..."

Butthurt? Not sure which demographic I missed. Enlighten me ole wisened car demographic guru.

edit....
As of November 2012....

To-date, 52-percent of Scion FR-S models are sold with a manual transmission. While the manual transmission is the most engaging option on the FR-S, the automatic certainly isn’t a boring slushbox.

Seventy percent of BRZs sold are equipped with a manual transmission.

No i'm not mad, just astonished how ignorant "car enthusiasts" are.

Real car guys accept all forms of transmissions, engines, cars, groups and styles associated in the car world.

Sorry old man.

It's quit comical how much some of us from this forum knew versus the sales rep we bought from. The guy I bought from was really a stand up guy but had his information all wrong, possibly due to poor training from the dealership. He was coming up on a year at the dealership that I bought my FRS from, drove a stupid clean slightly modded silvia s14 (that he bought from the dealership 4 weeks prior as he got his corolla totaled in an accident), and I was his first FRS sale. The car that we wanted to have a look at was parked right outside of the show room floor but at an angle to another adjacent car on a curb, so our salesman was going to have to back it out and down a narrow ramp to have it ready for us. I stood there and watched the guy go into 6th gear 3 times and scratch his head wondering why he couldn't get the car to go into reverse, I couldn't help myself but stand there and giggle. My fiancee was a lot nicer than me and he helped point out where and how to get into reverse and the salesman admitted that he didn't even know the FRS was a 6-speed, nevermind that the reverse gear was in the opposite direction relative to his 5-speed s14. The icing on the cake was that even though it was December of 2012, this was his first time ever driving the FRS that day. I bought from one of the highest volume dealerships in all of central Florida, they had 5 FRSs on the lot that day alone.

Sorry old man.
Ok for clarity and all I drive an automatic. I bought it because my truck is manual and really I don't wanna shift if I don't have to. You consider yourself a "real car guy" apparently. So a "real car guy" would know that less than 10% of new cars sold are sold with manuals. A "real car guy" would know that the most expensive sports cars in the world come with automatic transmissions.

The FRS/BRZ are beating the trend. First year sales are mainly to enthusiast. Demographics are demographics kid.

I'll accept the old man statement. You whipsnapper you!
