Perrin's rear shift rod bushing and Whiteline gearbox thrust insert:
After today's drive, I found these to have a slight advantage over OEM accelerating out of turns and cleaner shifting. Mind the mild increase in vibration on the shifter and noise, they are good mods for their price (~ $60). Installs are easy, did mine on a set of ramps and jacks. Did the oil change as well ($25 with OEM filter and oil). Want help installing them, let's request an install day/afternoon . BBQ!

I had an extremely scary experience heading back toward Alameda on 880N after the wheeldude meet today.

I was in the far left lane doing exactly 70 mph and I notice a ~1994 era forest green Toyota Camry pass by me in the next lane over to my right. After it gets about a car length in front of me I see white smoke coming from it's right rear tire like a brake seized up or a tire blew. Immediately their car lurches hard toward the right as a result.

As soon as I see this, I start slowing down - not knowing what is going on or what is about to happen. As their car veers toward the right they over correct in the other direction and this causes their family sedan to swerve hard to the left, suddenly stuck in an unrecoverable skid careening directly toward the concrete center median - and directly in front of me.

When I see that they are heading straight into my lane and toward the median, I lay on the brakes HARD. I'm slowing down, but I immediately calculate that I'm not going to be able to stop in time and I will have a collision with them. Still in 6th gear, I pull the steering wheel hard to the right in an attempt to avoid them completely. As I am cranking on the wheel I hear the loud SLAM of their car hitting the center barrier.

Debris and metal bits are hitting my car as I'm attempting to veer out of the way, and I manage to just narrowly pass by their rear bumper without clipping it as the Camry hits the median at a 90 degree angle. I can honestly say it felt like I probably had no more than a foot of clearance. It was so close that when I got home I was checking the left side of my car for scratches.

So when I realize that I'm actually clear of the single car accident I just witnessed, I downshift into 4th and hit the gas back up to 70. My adrenaline skyrockets and I'm left replaying the incident in my head for the rest of the way home.

Easily the closest call I've ever had. Be careful out there people - never know when something random like this can happen.

To be fair I looked in my rear view and saw the driver out of the car and walking around. Also I saw other people stopping behind the car so I knew CHP would be getting a call.

I'm just glad you're ok, man. Had something similar happen to me on two other occasions and in other cars. I had a lot more buffer room than you did it seems, but the experiences were scary nonetheless. Shook me up for a while.

Did anyone stop to help? Hope the driver and passengers are not hurt.

IMO braking isn't enough. I'd down shift and heel-toe to do an engine brake which helps slow the car down along with the actual brakes.

For sure, but there was no time for that. They were only 1 car length in front of me in the adjacent lane when they started swerving into my lane and crashing in dramatic fashion. I swear everything slowed down, just glad I had that thought to myself like "You aren't going to be able to stop, use your maneuverability to avoid them!".

Fucking crazy and I don't wish this kind of situation on anyone.

I'm glad you and your car are okay! The whole read was quite intense. You got that right, use the maneuverability of the car! But again at such high speed, instant maneuver can be risky!

Take it easy! Try less replays in your mind!

He managed to type down a detailed report of what happened. If you see your life flash before your eyes, all you'll remember would be the second before he hit the car.
