Notice at Scion website and build link that no options/add-ons/nothing. Also the specs are preliminary, only the barest basics and not even mention weight (same as Subaru), for example. Sooooo I guess basically, they had to intro it, but they really don't have any fixed ideas on options/upgrades and the NA weight they are probably embarassed about (same as Subaru no-weight specs) considering the low JDM weight spec. that is so impressive...

^ and BTW MPLexus301 - Scion is a niche brand bigtime, I say they practically aren't even on car buyers radar there's so few of them... And they are pretty quirky, you have to admit. Like a hobby brand that Toyota is experiemtning with, I say, and I guess that's how most Americans that even knows Scion exists thinks of them.

Subaru is a bigtime car brand in comparison IMO, I see dozens of Subies for every Scion in the NE.

After hoping for a long time that Scion offers the Hot Lava bright orange color, now I see the Argento! That is beautiful. So what I thought was going to be an easy decision, isn't!

Little nit picks aside, I am just thrilled that Scion is going to offer this car at all and I cannot wait to own one and drive it every day and night.

I have been mulling over these pictures since last night.

My thoughts are that the interior looks like crap. The price point for this car should definitely be under $21K. If this is indeed the low-end model, its perfect for those who don't care about the details such as the Climate Control and radio. All those who keep bringing up $24K as the base price need to get real. Same goes for those thinking that $27K for one that has all the bells and whistles.

For me personally, I am out of the purchase game if the higher end model goes over $24K. Worse case scenario, I will go buy a used S2000 and spend the extra $$ on a hardtop. The motor, transmission and chassis are rock solid on the S2000.

You KNOW the writer at Motor Authority was smoking crack and drinking cool-aid when you see 2 Lliter TURBO in the article. So, everything he wrote was just a bunch of bull. Even said 2800lb when Subaru official weight is clearly lower.

Those fake journalist need to go write articles about Kadashians.

I don't think the choice Scion made is a bad one. After all, the car comes from the same factory and profits are probably split already. The only people making profit on BRZ vs FR-S are dealers. Toyota Scion are marketed for cheap, their sales man (my good friend) admitted to me that they don't get a lot out of them in stock form compared to Corolla. So it doesn't matter which one sells more, they both make money. Now in this form, the car can reach different price points. Think of the Scion as the Tuner model sold in Japan. The one with no paint on bumper, etc. The Scion just has a tad more stuff to make it good enough for all the showrooms.

It looks to me like they are shooting for around a 20K base model. They still have competitors, and Toyobaru needs to undercut its more powerful vehicle rivals.

Also, for those complaining about the ugly dash. This is the original 86's factory RHD dash.

One other comment...

A lot of people here are saying, "If you don't like it, switch it out later," referring to HVAC, head unit, fogs, etc. I'd personally rather go for a higher spec car up front and get what I wanted, and factor it into the purchase price, than get the car and have to keep saving up for aftermarket parts.

Just me, though.

For those of us in cold weather climates that interior is fucking epic! I can wear gloves and use 90% of the controls in the car. My phone that isn't -25F will actually have a screen that works. Yes, I drive regularly in -35C weather. Drives to the ski hill are going to be terrific in this thing. Sideways the whole way!

To be fair, back in 86, that was pretty mcnasty... Digital readout, digital clock, two tone interior, eq radio with cassette!

I don't know about you guys, but that interior was boss...

LOL, I liked my S13 240SX coupe dash. Anything on the FRS/BRZ/GT 86 is just as good, plus cup holders.

I don't know why ppl complain about the radio. Maybe they never bought a recent new car. All those damn things including NC Miata and RX-8 have OEM radio that CANNOT be replaced with aftermarket. This car clearly comes with double DIN to do whatever you want. I love how it's a blank canvas. I see lots of aftermarket popping up like mushrooms. Headlights, tail lights, bumpers, rear diffuser, door panel and dash panel inserts and skins. The only ones losing out will be CF hood makers since factory one is already light and getting CF will only be for looks and vents.

That's got to be the joke of the year. Subaru won't sell even 1. Being an ex-STi owner, I can surely tell you these cars are in 2 totally different leagues.

I was at the event, posted several pics on my Facebook. With the Subaru price looming around 25,595 (supposedly very similar starting price to the WRX) I would expect, but do not know that the Scion will come in 1,500 to 2000 dollars less. Factoring in the fact that the base does NOT have HID, and it does not have navigation like the base model US is equipped. My guess the car will start out in the 23K range, plus a few hundred. Just using the BRZ US information as a baseline.

Things you may want to know but didn't ask for:

The FR-S displayed in the front hall that was modified with Greddy and Rays Engineering parts was equipped with Greddy coilovers, (pics on my facebook) Rays engineering wheels 19x8.5 +45 front with 225/35/19 and 19x9.5 +45 245/35/19 rear. It was equipped with a Greddy exhaust system as mentioned earlier as well. They did not pop the hood on this car so the engine was likely stock.

The rear fenders on the factory car are not rolled from the factory (the GT-R is) however the front wheels have no fender lip. The stock 17" wheels have slightly over an inch clearance between the inside of the rim lip and the strut body in the front.

I was over all quite impressed with the car, and will be purchasing the BRZ myself, although I wouldn't kick an FR-S out of bed . As I stated earlier the price will LIKELY be below $25,595 by a fair bit, (maybe $1,500-$2000 less due to lack of nav, but again just a guess. I know I said it twice.) due to the lower spec equipment on the scion base car vs the Subaru base car and the QUOTED Subaru base price hovering near an entry level WRX.
