I got the distantXtremes kit:

http://www.distantxtremes.com/fr-s-l...cessories.html

FR-S HID System XE+ Premium 35w Ultra Slim 6000KLow Beam H11

It was $150 when I got it...looks like it went up $20 since then. Completely plug and play...took me about 10 minutes a side to install

If you're going to buy a kit, buy the cheapest one you can buy. They're all the same - made in China with low QC and no testing to OEM standards.

Like I said, there is only one correct way to do this.

I've had two DDM tuning kits, and zero problems. This "you get what you pay for" crap is well...crap in this case. Paying more is just paying for a brand name.

As far as the "squirrel finder" issue--if I were blinding people, I would be getting the "high beams" flash. Had the kit in for a month now, plenty of night driving, and no "flash." I've even deliberately stood in a way at night that would expose me to the reflected light--its not as bad as some would have you think.

The squirrel finder fix requires all of an extra ten seconds per side. Not fixing it is lazy and inconsiderate. Not to mention that people want to retroifit HID lighting to look and perform as close to OEM as possible, so this is necessary to do so.

Opening the headlight encloisures and swapping the projectors is a big job and not within most people's ability. Fortunately in the case of the FR-S the only tradeoff I have observed with the stock projector is a diminished peripheral view as compared to OEM HID's.

I'm agreeing with this point. If you buy the $20 DDM kit, you're likely to be just as satisfied as if you paid $300 for whatever else ebay special JDMland made in China special you can find that claims 100% digital outputs and A/C inverter explosions within a tiny glass capsule.

But you're still buying crap.

I realize you are exaggerating, but the "fix" takes longer than 10 seconds--I await your DIY thread on it, if its that easy. No need to be insulting.

Sorry if my words are too strong for your liking. I feel strongly about this and if you want a DIY here is it:

After removing the H11 bulb, stick your index finger in the hole where the light socket was mounted. At the underside of the opening there is a bendable metal piece. Simply push it down as far as you can.
There...I just saved you searching for it.

You are correct though, I think it added 15 seconds per side first time I did it.

Thanks. Was being civil so hard?

Edit/Addition/Full disclosure: I checked out of the various HID threads a while ago. Didn't know the fix was that simple. Again, haven't noticed any reactions, I honestly think some people are overreacting to how much light the "Squirrel finders" put out.

I've had two DDM kits on two separate cars, including my Fr-s. They used to offer a larger ballast and this was the only one that I had the flickering problem with. However, it wasn't a problem because turning them on/off fixed it. On the new ones they offer (the ones I have on my Fr-s) I have had zero issues. I love them and they look great.

So is this the kit you have?

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W

If so, did you end up needing/getting the mounting brackets, HID harness, error eliminator or adapter cables? (All options on the website).

Thanks!

That would be the one!

You can get the mounting brackets, but alot of owners are just finding places to stick them in the engine bay, away from heat sources. You'll need some 3M double-sided pads.

The rest of the parts should come with the kit. They'll send you any parts you need to adapt it for use with the twins.

I have that kit in a 35w 6000k form. I didn't order brackets as you can easily mount the ballasts to the frame. On the driver side, I zipped tied the ballast to the frame under the intake, and on the passenger side I zipped tied it to the frame behind the headlight. No error eliminators or adapter cables are needed. Just make sure you get the right bulb size. Also, when you are installing, the bulbs come with a protective plastic case that should be removed. I just slid the top half off and cut the bottom half with strong scissors (be careful doing this). There is also an orange O-ring that makes it hard to lock the bulbs in place. They will lock perfectly, but the O-ring makes it seem like they did not, so don't over tighten because the plastic lock will snap. Good luck!
