TRD CAI Flow

I agree with that statement. I live in the country and do very little traffic driving. I do tend to drive it pretty vigorously on those country roads; think curves & hills. I'm not concerned with milage. I'm just looking for a crude quantifiable measure of the CAI's effectiveness. As I stated yesterday the drivability, especially at the low end was improved perceptably. If it flows more air, it should use more fuel.

Their article does not even make sense. They keep referring to the CAI as a high performance air filter and state the upgrade costs $75 but then clearly show the entire intake being replaced which is actually over $400.

It also states in a future article that they will be reporting whether or not their are any real performance gains.

Yeah, I just pointed that error out to them. Perhaps the washable filter costs $75? I paid $425 for mine at the dealer. When my OEM exhaust goes belly-up in the salty Northeast I might then consider a stainless replacement.

I'd take anything from Motor Trend with a grain of salt but it could be a good indicator as well.

the 210 HP claim is weird, they either used some hokey pokey conversion from a chassis Dyno, (don't care who's or what...conversion rates are a best guess...at best) or this is a number passed down from the Celeb race crew...I don't believe anything without data. I would be interested in seeing a back to back between the stock and celeb race cars.

I have a friend who is fond of stating: "A man without data has nothing but an opinion and his D!@% in his hand"

I have no reason to believe this isn't the best intake on the market, there appears to be a nice volute heading into the MAF tube, a nice big "plenum" of sorts and as much or more cold air as any of the aftermarket options. all with less restriction, and since TRD has all the engine data it is much easier for them to determine the correct volume box to make the motor happy.

I predict that the Intake won't make the best peak number but I am Certain it will produce the best average numbers, you'd be amazed what an OEM can do with airflow calculations.

Are you doing a baseline with the stock intake as well?

I am thinking about it, but I don't know if I am going to have the time to do it.

I got 3 pulls for $60....so I guess I could do the 1st pull to get a baseline completely stock with the stock filter. Install the TRD Intake and pull 2nd one on stock tune with the TRD intake and pull the third on the Ecutek 93 octane\TRD intake.

Seems like a lot of work...but I am willing to try it.

What sold me on this intake was the increased air volume and straighter intake track. I don't think this intake is going to make massive power. But people are saying the throttle response if much better with this intake, so there is that and nobody has actually tried to ecutek tune for it yet.

Thanks. I guess having 1 run of each would be nice but not really optimal, but better then nothing!

Yeah I don't except much HP gains in any intake, especially when you're NA. Looking at TRD stuff in the past, it will be a small but good improvement. #1 thing i'm concerned about is throttle response.

Yep throttle response and if it's good, then this intake is a keeper. Right now the stock box and a good Ecutek tune gives awesome throttle response at least in my BRZ. It can only get better with this airbox, hopefully...if I can come up with some more money, I might do 6 runs on the dyno....
