Try to avoid Toyota Place in Garden Grove
I went to my local Toyota dealership to pick up some gaskets for transmission and differential fill and drain bolts. The parts department "expert" told me these crush washers are $16 each and on top of that, they'll need to special order them. I've been avoiding this dealership for any maintenance of my 12' Prius as the service writers here are extremely incompetent, but I had no idea the parts department was just as bad. lol I did a quick search online and found them for 97 cents to $1.62 each. So yeah, if you value your money and time, I would strongly recommend you to avoid this dealer for anything. (They have a $3000-5000 markup for all FR-S a.k.a extremely inflated rear tints, body kits, wheels and unnecessary add-ons) lol
I guess I'll pay a visit to Ferdie at South Coast Subaru tomorrow. |

i went there while searching for my car, horrible experience. ill do a cliff notes since its long
-Told them what i wanted. Base, whiteout. Internet salesmen emailed me and said they had one in stock. -Came down, another salesmen flocked to me and showed me the car. It had literally JUST arrived. Told me there was a 3k mark up. -Went home / walked away -internet lady calls and tells me theres a base one available. I told her i already went to the dealer, and they said theres a 3k mark up. She sounded confused. I told her if its still "base" price, i will return and purchase. -Said she couldn't do anything and the markup was already set. She asked me if theres anything she could do. I told her to contact me when another base one arrives, or if they decide to remove the mark up. -Proceeded to say "THERES NOTHING I CAN FUCKING DO ABOUT IT OKAY? YOU WANT IT OR NOT?" -Hung up |

That's because the trans and drains are gaskets, not crush washers per Ferdie. I'm inclined to believe him...

According to this thread, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19218, the OP states that there are total of four crush washers... So now, I'm not entirely sure which to believe. A part number that shows up in both Toyota and Subaru's parts diagram? or the person who actually have changed both fluids... Hm... I'm gonna still pay a visit to Ferdie tomorrow to get to the bottom of this. |

Parts for this car will be cheaper at the Subaru dealership for example oil filter is going to be ~20 at Toyota but at Subaru its ~8-10. I wish it wasnt the same for parts like crush washers and gaskets but since its gotta be "special order" from subaru anyway might as well cut out the middle man.

When I was shopping for cars, they had the highest msrp anywhere. I asked if they could help me find a car I wanted with less options and crap. Sales said no. I looked at him and said bye. His manager had a talk with him after. Avoid! They want your hard earned money!

Iirc the trans/diff crush washers even at Subaru are expensive but no where near those prices. I believe they were around $2 each online and Torrance Toyota tried there best to get it lower then what was showing up on there catalog. Torrance Toyota gave me 0W-20 for around $6 each quart, which is the cheapest in the LA area.
Do your research before buying. If its a lot more expensive locally I suggest you buy in bulk online. Shipping kills it but if you buy enough it becomes cheaper. |

Got those washers/gaskets today. Will post up some photos with parts number. JFYI, transmission gaskets are solid washer type, and not the crush type like the other thread was mentioning. Will update some time tomorrow.

As promised.
![]() Manual transmission drain and fill plug gasket: ![]() As you can see, they are solid o-ring and not a crush type. Rear diff fill plug gasket: ![]() Rear diff drain plug gasket: ![]() As you can see above, both rear diff plug gaskets are crush type washers. Added bonus, below you'll find a photo of the OEM oil filter and the crush gasket for its drain plug.
