wow this descended into FR-S vs. BRZ

can't we accept that the reason anyone would buy an FRS/BRZ is because it was their preference?

I will admit I am bummed that Toyota marked the FR-S as a scion but I got over it. it's still an 86. it just an s Badge instead of a t badge, doesn't matter really.

I was originally going to get an FR-S because I wanted to make it look like the TRD "retro" 86 that was at TAS this year. but I go to thinking, while I do plan on keeping my 'twin" for a long time that overall project would eat up a lot of my savings which is something I literally cannot afford right now.

I chose the BRZ overall because 1, it has HID, 2, you can get fog lights as an option ( these are good safety features as the weather here is unpredictable), and 3, it has navigation (i have a terrible sense of direction any assistance is greatly appreciated).

Plus a lot of the sti parts out right now are much cheaper than the TRD pars for the 86/FR-S so I can spend time upgrading/working on my car without cleaning out my savings, and do it more frequently. This is a win/win for me.

My point is, each and every one of us has our reason for buying the scion/subaru variant. why we choose what we choose is irrelevant. they're still the same car. Conceived and Built by Toyota and Subaru; FR-S and BRZ.

I don't own either of the twins. But calling someone an idiot for buying a brz over a frs does not make much sense.
disagree over the higher resale value reason! don't see this! cars are practically
identical for all intents and purposes,so with production being limited over time,
believe this to be a fallacy ,and basically an "opinion" only, NOT shared by others.

Someone please correct me if I say anything wrong in the following wall-o-text but I don't understand this higher resale value claim that hasn't just been made here, but in quite a few other comparisons that I have read.

Wouldn't it make sense that a 30k car have a higher resale value than a 25k car? This statement would only hold true if the resale value was 5k more than the scion version, or am I completely off on this? (even if you want to compare the 25k with the 27k version same logic holds true for this).

Not to mention, the whole theory and logic behind resale value seems highly flawed/subjective/opportunistic. The only time I can see this as being truly valuable is if you take the time to try to sell the car on your own (e.g., not a trade-in), which can prove to be difficult the higher the asking price (which is obviously what you are aiming for if considering resale value as a prime reason to purchase one vehicle over the other).

To give a quick example: I was shopping for a FRS back last May (bought mine June 1st) between 3 different dealers. One dealer offered me 5100$ for my 07 TC (was purchased in 06, 85k miles, super clean interior and exterior minus a minor parking lot hit and run on my passenger side front tire). The dealer I purchased the FRS from gave me 8200$ for my TC. That was a 3100$ difference and almost 40% of my original sale value a whole 6 years later (17,500 is what I originally paid for it before taxes, tags, etc). That, in my mind, was a pretty darn good deal all things considered.

The point of that story was that my resale value rose considerably because of many different factors. Motivation to sell a car, motivation to purchase, timing, negotiation skills, etc. can all change how much you get.

Sooooo, with that said, is the resale value difference really that large between a BRZ and a FRS? I understand that getting 16k for a BRZ is more than getting 14k for a FRS (random numbers), but you paid that much more for it anyway so makes complete sense?

Anyway can't believe my baby is almost turning 1

when the two are "new" yes! however,as they age,and depreciation is higher,i believe it will be a ''toss-up" and the cars will be just about ''dead nuts" even. it's an opinion, and no one can really predict with any degree of accuracy,WHAT will happen in the future.

I'm not going to get involved in the BRZ vs. FR-S debate but this is just BS. Cloth is not impervious to wear. The cloth in my previous Scion showed wear within a couple months of ownership. So far, my BRZ-L's seats are pristine. Only time will tell how durable the seats are, but the FR-S seats do NOT look that durable to me.

I see modification opportunity here, at least to change the LEDs to red, or colormatch your car.

Geez, I thought we as a community got over the whole FRS vs BRZ debate... It's like arguing over different trim levels of the same car -_-

True, but if it was locked without the issue being resolved, there would've been more and more unnecessary threads/threadjacks of the same thing popping up as it usually does on forums:

"Hey, how do I (insert problem here)?"
Or
"What's the point of having (insert object) in the FR-S/BRZ?"
"Have you used the search function? There are other threads on this already"

You get what I'm saying?
