Looks like he hit the brakes, his rear tires lost traction/hydroplaned (hence the turn-around before flip), and it was all downhill from there....sorry, coudln't pass up the pun. Glad you are ok, OP.

Looks like black ice to me. Just remember the car off the road, may just be an idiot that can't drive, but it may be from something on the road. At least he didn't hit the people up ahead.

When did this happen? Black ice would only work if the temperature was around or below freezing.

Edit--also, this was shot in Alabama. Not really known for its rampant black ice.

Ice and/or bald tires could be the only culprits from watching the video.

Because water on the road and the center of gravity shifting forward under sudden braking never cause a loss of traction to the rear wheels.

Edit: I apologize in advance if anyone is seeing these posts as being overly condescending, but I just looked up the average weather for the Birmingham area (I couldn't find the weather that specific day), and it very rarely gets into the conditions necessary for black ice: Average weather on 12/12 for Birmingham, AL

Let alone snow. Could black ice have existed at that point? Possibly. Is it likely? Probably not.

Date stamp on the video is December, so black ice is a possibility - especially since southern states don't have the plows and sanders to treat roadways when temperatures drop.

Look at the link I posted above--possible, but very unlikely. Also, RAIN.

that was so epic! I wish i got the accident that left me in a coma on film.

BTW are there military proceedings for bracing for impact or rolls in vehicles? Id imagine so, i just want to know what they are.

Anyway, looks like that accident was waiting to happen based on the road conditions, driver did nothing wrong except to slightly underestimate the stability of the car.

Hunter it would be hard to imagine that a Honda Fit going that slow with normal width tires braking as lightly as he did spinning out from that much rain. Maybe if he had wide tires. Skinny Honda Fit tires generally make rain driving a breeze and they just plow right through the water with ease. I'm willing to bet he didn't have much or any tread on his tires. Not to mention the Fit is FWD and the brakes are stronger in the front than the measly ones in the rear. I was honestly surprised when I saw the tail end of the car get out as quickly as it did, especially since it's FWD.
