One of these days I will get a proper photoshoot, the only pic I have of them together right now.

still makes me laugh when I think of the rx7 as a miata on steroids.

But damn do I love those cars.

I won't lie, if I had $25k in cash lying around and didn't have to finance a BRZ I would most likely buy an FD3S instead. My friend has a *mint* 94 Touring with 40k original miles that he's selling; it's absolutely gorgeous. He took it to a local rotary shop and the owner said it was the nicest one he'd ever seen. I still think the FD3S is the best-looking car ever to come out of Japan, followed closely by the NSX and the SW20 MR2.

I've never seen one up close in person, just going the other way on the freeway. I never realized how small they were. I guess none of the RX-7 lineup was ever that big though.

Nope, they're tiny. One of the reasons I like the FR-S/BRZ so much is because the proportions are similar to my old FC3S Turbo II. Except I can sit up straight in the FR-S; not enough headroom in the FC3S, at least with the sunroof.

Really? Not knocking your tastes or anything, but RX7s require a lot of upkeep. Those rotary engines don't really last, and the turbos definitely didn't help reliability. To me, it's one of those cars that's cool if your friend owns it.

I know this because I did have $25k to spend on a car, and I found a mint fd that I was about to buy, but it was going to have to be my daily driver, and the guys over at rx7club talked me out of it.

This would not be my daily driver. I have a beautifully simple E30 BMW for that. You are absolutely right, though. I would budget for a rebuild, assuming that the engine could and would blow at any second. Exhibit A:
