Does Eneos, Amsoil, redline or motul oil really make THAT big of a difference for the price? I just DD my car, no tracking... spirited driving on backroads every now and then. Is it really necessary?

Eh, I get what you're trying to say, but on a car that is a DD with a decent drive time (oil allowed to heat up), he's probably not going to see much of a difference. I like your analogy more with fuel

OP, you are driving with "extreme conditions," I would highly suggest going with a better oil. An every day DD with correct oil changes probably won't see much of a difference.

I'll just be running toyota oil until I start autoxing it

Dude has a point. Factory fill is damn good stuff.

Considering my experiences at the dealer, I'd recommend buying it and doing the oil change yourself.

I will continue to use Subaru's oil (free oil changes) until the third oil change, when all the factory particulates and cocktail fluids are removed. Then i will change over to Eneos.

Not sure if you're talking about Subaru or Toyota, but i've been reading on the bob oil forum and many say the Toyota 0W-20 is one of there favorites.

Yeahhhh I don't have sustina money lol. But I think my dealership uses penzoil, at least when I got my car I asked the service department and they said they had penzoil. Idk if they rotate oils but if they don't I'd be getting penzoil instead of OEM Toyota for my free oil changes

Yeah, who want the factory fill in there too long will the higher levels of anti-wear additives for a better break in.

You can't go wrong with either oil. IMO, Pennzoil is one of the better off the shelf oils that you can buy.
