Thanks for finding this. I thought I was going to have to get rid of the Navi ASAP as it is pretty useless if you have to pull to a stop and put the handbrake on every time you want to enter an address. Shame on Subaru for implementing it this way. Never owned a car that did this before. And, you purchase a 2013 and it doesn't have the 2012 map update? WTF?
It took me a little while, as the NAVI file that I had to replace was also the one in the PRG1 folder, not PRG0. Thanks again! |

Can someone do a small how to on the wiring harness option, or at least clarify what needs to be done for the bypass? For some reason the information im reading is just not clicking in my head.

i completed the wiring harness trick to play video while driving, and it worked really easy
i grounded the E-brake from the standard plug, and the mute wire from the plug I bought from amazon (after relocating it) and it work there are a lot of walkthrough on the web, but maybe i can take a few picture tomorrow. it's really basic re-wiring, if I'm able to do it, anybody with two hands can! |

Thanks for this, just updated my Nav and unlocked safe mode option. Make sure to edit the Navi.exe under PRG1 instead of PRG0.

My own experiences.
I just wanted to add some clarifications that may be useful to others for using the TESTMODE MENU:
When navigating test mode: The physical buttons on the nav unit do the following: Mode = Select Skip Track/Forward = Moves the red highlight box in the bottom menu right Skip Back/Rewind = Move left Home = Returns you to the original screen. Any incomplete actions will be forgotten. To select all, you drop down into the folder with the files you want. Scroll down (using volume) to one of the files. This 'unlocks' the options available from the bottom menu. Then move the bottom menu cursor (using forward/back) to [ALL] and press MODE physical button. Then move over to [COPY]->Press MODE. Using Volume scroll up to the ".." (this is old DOS style), in the bottom, scroll over to [ENTER]->Press MODE. I think that should give enough clarification.. |

So I'm finally getting to update my NAVI finally, and had a few comments so far.
Copying the items proved to be a bit tricky for me, once I went to "All" and "copy", I kept trying to deselect everything to go back in the file system "..". But I think when you do "all" again to deselect, it erases what you copied? In any case, just move back to "Enter" and scroll to the ".." after copying, then hit Mode then move to the folder you want to paste to and it should work. The next thing is the step with the "hack". I didn't have to say "Yes" to anything, once the unit fired up it started automatically. It also wasn't clear when it was finished. I sat and waited for a while, but ultimately I believe the last step is "dll replaced," or something of that nature. After that I just powered down and started moving the update onto the card. Lastly, or at least last at this point in my process was the password for the update. It took me a while to figure out that I should read the readme in the main folder, the password is "passwordpassword" (hit the thanks button on this post if it helped you :P... took me quite a bit of time to figure this out lol) Edit: The reason I needed the password is because I must have glossed over the "VERINFO.html" step. Without that file I guess you need to input the password. Got everything running, it's awesome now! Can input things into the navi, modify settings, no more lawyer screen (my biggest pet peeve). Thanks again for this great guide! Last edited by djdnz; 07-03-2013 at 10:54 AM. |

![]() Earlier today I wanted to reply but I was on my phone. I was going to say... I never receive the 'Password Input' screen. I followed the steps VERY closely. |

For those that did the soft hack/update did the software itself change? How does it compare to the original? Have you had apps like aha and pandora working? I see going the Pioneer upgrade route effectively changes the AVIC-X9310BT into a AVIC-X940BT. Is the hack essentially the same file?

For once I'm jealous of you guys. Looks like a better head unit as well. If anyone sees a software fix for the US head unit I'd appreciate a PM!
