I think what we are trying to say about buying used is just be cautious. If you do enough research on a used twin, everything checks out, and the price is right, jump on it! It's true not everyone beats this car up, however when investing such a large sum (which I assume you worked hard for) into a depreciating item, one would benefit from investing in a car when you are the first owner and follow through in your intentions to do right by your investment.

If you are the dude (or chick) who just hit the powerball or just has money to blow, be my guest on what you want to buy. Buying a used twin (which will become less rare with time) this early into the first gen/first model year is risky. Let the high rollers roll and the chickens (that's me ) do their thangs!

Also, consider this. Among this list of cars, what car would you expect to have been beat on the most?

1. Luxury car, AT
2. Family sedan, AT
3. Minivan, AT
4. Sports car, AT
5. Sports car, MT

Most likely #5 and #4 would come in second. But that's what these cars are designed for, they are generally robust, it's not high mileage, yada yada so it boils down to what you can tolerate.

I bought mine used with 5500 miles on it. So long as you extend the warranty you should be okay. I also took it to a dealer ASAP to check out.

when you purchase a depreciating asset, one can expect to lose close to 50% or higher in the first 4 years of ownership,so i wouldn't refer to the car as an
"investment" if it is,it's a pretty "piss poor" one.the ONLY way this car appreciates in value is IF they stop making them entirely, and you know that's NOT gonna happen any time soon. its like henry ford once said,"any color you want as long as it's black!"..just sayin'

One of my friends bought a flood car from an auction. Red FRS... He said he paid half price... Automatic.

He works in a garage n I work at a bodyshop. He got it started n had me order a few parts. He loves it n only BIG problem is no power steering, which doesn't bug him at all. Couldn't get floor mats from dealer for some reason. Also, his key wont open n lock doors. Trying to trance issue, but he didn't say anything yet.

Picked mine up used, 1100 miles-- super happy with it. Decent price, was exactly the color/trim/options I wanted, and effectively like new in every way I am able to tell. Super happy with the purchase... I would do so again with no worries.

I wonder if there is much difference between earlier and later cars. There are still new 86s having cel issues. I have yet to see one without the chirping that runs fuel with ethanol.

I got my car in June and have had 0 issues. The 2 other guys I know in my area who also got their cars around the same time have also had no issues.
