Has anyone bought their BRZ or FR-S used?
I will be placing an order for one in april or may depending on my financial situation.
Some that occurred to me, has anyone bought theirs Used. or has everyone who owns one bought theirs new? Or is it Dealerships are charging so much for used ones, that people are just buying new regardless. Case in point, Jim Norton Toyota of Tulsa, OK is charging $25,991 for a Firestorm FR-S with 6,567 miles on it and the previous owner has put black toyota badges on it. It has no dealer installed extras. so why buy that when you can buy a brand new Firestorm FR-S for $25,305 with no mileage? the car in question. http://www.jimnortontoyota.com/vehic...-ok-id-4307932 I wasn't able to find a used BRZ in town. regardless, has anyone bought their ZC6 used? If so, how are you liking it?

From what I've seen, they're asking way too much. Consider an example like the one you mentioned:
1. It's probably an early build, and so doesn't benefit from the fixes that have gone into production over the last year. 2. Did they bother to break it in properly, or was it 7500 RPM off the dealer lot. You don't know, so you should get a discount. 3. Similarly, is there something wrong with the car? The original owner would have known, but you probably can't determine that during a short test drive. This asymmetric information is a big reason why cars are supposed to depreciate quickly. Having said that, years ago I bought a one year old used sports car from a dealer. If I remember correctly, it was roughly 80% of the current model year's invoice price, and about 75% of the MSRP. Prices were rising faster then than now. I had no trouble with the car and three years later sold it for 80% of what I'd paid. Last edited by ZXTT95; 03-26-2013 at 01:53 PM. Reason: Changed word. |

Wowzers they're able to upcharge in Tulsa, OK? I imagine most Midwest states wouldn't have the demand to warrant crazy markup. Maybe try looking elsewhere? I saw this Limited 6MT for sticker price at Olathe Subaru (in KS) the other day. It's sad how some people are waiting months for their delivery while this has been sitting in the showroom for a few weeks. Also got mine for MSRP.

I've said this before; there are many cars I would buy used but I wouldn't consider buying one of the twins used. The car attracts too many buyers who believe in "driving 'em like they stole 'em".
If you are considering financing your car you will probably be able to get a better interest rate on a new car than you could get on a used car. In the long run the new car would more than likely cost you less. |

I agree with @whaap. Be very cautious of taking the bait of an available "twin" (that doesn't sound right). As hype would have it, you must question why a car with only 6-7k miles was given up so soon in its life. I've waiting for my FRS since I first fell in love with the idea of the AE86 coming back, waiting a few more months will be worth it!
There is a used Whiteout M/T FRS in the small town that I live in, with a sticker of $24,885 with nearly 7k miles on it. The only accessory that I can see on the car is the Bespoke radio; the build number is xxxD1713052. So this car is not necessarily an early build as I purchased my car in December 2012 and my build number is in the mid 13K. I have had no issues with my car now nearing 7k miles, following the proper break-in period, and miss driving it every second it sits in a parking spot. I can only imagine why the used M/T was giving up by the original owner let alone how the original owner spent the first 7k miles. |

I bought mine used because a) it was immediately available, b) it was in a color/trim that I liked, c) was affordable.
All this talk about being worried that the car was beat on - what car in the universe isn't beat on? They're cars. They have wear parts. If the thing is falling apart within the warranty period, get it fixed for free under warranty. |

and besides, I see no reason why I should get a 2014.

not all of these twins are thrashed...in fact, by looking at this forum id say these cars, apart from the ones tracked, are actually pretty babied (not driven in the winter, very cautious break in driving, etc). Sometimes people have to sell for financial or family changes.
I would say when buying a used car picking the right owner is more important than picking the type of car |

All the people bringing up the positives makes sense when it's already taken the initial depreciation hit from driving off the lot.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE. Wait for a new one unless they can make it worth your while. Personally I wouldn't look twice at that one unless it's around $24k. It's nice to know exactly what your car has been through because you drove it off the lot with less than 10 miles on the clock, you pay a premium for that peace of mind. If you don't have that the car is worth less and that's the bottom line. |
