After driving this thing in the snow, I cannot express in words how much I hate driving in the snow with the trac/vsc on.

It feels like an 11 year old who has only played gran turismo decides to modulate my inputs mid-turn. This is my first RWD car with driver aids, and I have to say that I'm better than this vehicle's traction and vsc systems in the snow. Sure, I swing the rear out a bit, but with the trac and vsc systems on, the car pushes and takes turns extremely wide - certainly wide enough to put me head-on on the wrong side of the road if I let it.

For me, VSC / trac are on when my wife drives it, and I'll leave them on when it's raining to protect against unpredictably slick roads. But strangely enough, in the snow I will continue to turn them both off.

EXACTLY how I feel! Turning around snowy backstreet is much better with everything off, because frankly with snow the damn thing flashes and blink ALL THE TIME! And going uphill / from stop with snow, you want those wheel spinning, and pushing the traction button everytime you get to a stop sign is just stupid...and It turns much better with the throttle than with steering input :happy0180:

When I'm on the highway though there's no reason to not leave the nannies on. It's either full on for me or full off (hold Trac. Con. 2 sec.).

I don't notice a single difference between all the modes. They are so restrictive and don't really let the car slip at all. For me it's basically a traction on/off switch. When I want to have fun I just turn them all off. Most of the time I leave it on though, it isn't too intrusive.

so.. just confirming. assuming most of my runs are straight and I don't launch from starts there is no difference in turning any of these off and on right? In MT it wont affect anything besides thru turns and launch?

I have probably near 1000 hours of track time in cars and karts, and one thing I can tell you is that its not a matter of if you make a mistake, it's when.

Tires, conditions, poor judgement, animals, acts of god etc. Leaving at least the VSC sport mode on can and will save you from a loss of control incident on the street and for 95% of drivers it will save you from a costly mistake.

The car is tail happy, and if you changes to stickier tires it will be MUCH less predictable on the street. Not soap boxing, just reality.

Off for track/autocross. Sport for backroads and spirited street driving. Normal for commute and highway.

You're so true, being in VSC sport saved me and my car maybe twice, once in fall at the middle of a corner, a bump kicked the car sideway and the vsc did it's job of bringing the car back straight, the other in winter, same kind of conditions but somewhere else, I liked these nannies more than I though I would...

Assuming you're talking about just normal driving, i don't think you'll notice very much, at least on dry pavement. In the rain, you may feel, at times, like there's less power on start if there is any loss of traction. Whereas you might not have noticed anything with TC completely OFF as the transition would have been smooth, the TC ON, it will cut some power...not a big deal for normal driving.

Was doing a Tail of the Dragon run in another driver's FR-S, TC On and Sport Off, and we slid off the road at 40mph because of my added weight. The TC totally seemed to hiccup that time, letting us outright lose our grip and not regain any control.

I definitely prefer sport mode ON because at least you have a better feeling for the limits of the car. But I'll leave TC in the partially on/off (sport) because it allows you to more smoothly regain from a skid.
