FR-S TRD Upgrades and Dealer installed Accessories
I have posted bits and pieces in a few other threads because my account was new and I was not able to start a thread but now that I can create threads I would like to get this one going as it addresses all of my primary questions/issues and hopefully all the helpful and knowledgeable people here can give me their insight/opinions/recommendations before I take delivery of my new FR-S.
I am a new user who has been lurking on this site for months now just reading and researching. I have finally decided to buy a FR-S and have given my local dealer a $500 deposit to secure the next car to arrive that matches my spec. I asked quite a few questions about TRD parts and dealer installed upgrades and after some poking and prodding my dealer came back to me with a list of potential things they could do. Below is a list of all the possible things my dealer said they could do (at least these are the things I was interested in) and I wanted to share. Prices are considered final-installed.
I am considering getting this exhaust instead: http://www.borla.com/products/frs_br...t__140496.html. It is considerably cheaper and if its just bolt on I could install myself. Borla claims 4-6hp/tourque gains at the wheels. For those of you who have done your own exhaust are they pretty easy to do? I have plenty of tools but I dont have access to a lift. I do have my own floor-jack and 2 stands to prop the car up with. I have never seen or heard of the TRD Cold Air intake before and cannot find a single piece of information on it anywhere on the internet. I was given a picture of what it looks like and I just cant tell if it would be worth the cost. The url to the picture is: http://www.toyotaasg.com/imagebank/98102.jpg (if you click the link you will see the picture). I have tried to get into that site but it seems to be a Toyota dealer parts site and a region and dealer code is required to access. If anyone has info that could be helpful getting in there that it would be appreciated!! Any info or opinions you have would be greatly appreciated. I have not taken delivery of my FR-S but once they call I will have to be ready to make some decisions on what (if any) of these dealer installed options I want. |

If you like all these options because you can throw it into financing then its all your call. Otherwise its never cheaper to get it from the dealer most of the time

Almost everything is cheaper or better aftermarket, the five axis kit is the only thing id tack on. The leather seats are a matter of opinion and depends on you. Its too dam hot in texas for leather at least for me.

SARD Racing Japan makes some nice seat covers for around $500 after ship. They aren't real leather, PVC Leather, but they look like a pretty good fit.

$1400 is the cost for the 5 axis kit by itself and that is not even painted. Add another $800 for paint. Then there is install to add on top of that. http://www.fivead.net/edition-vehicl...cion-fr-s.html |

Some people don't trust aftermarket products and prefer only to buy TRD/STI/Mopar/M/AMG only because its made by the company.
So i think its a good thing TRD does offer some products for the cars, it'll make em more unique. |

I can really only comment on the exhaust...
Depends on what you want really; if you want a nice deeper sound that goes to the point of being obnoxious but never crosses it ... then you will NOT regret the TRD exhaust. (Despite all your friends calling it the "turd" exhaust) |
