Slip+CEL = Bank1 running lean?

Today while out driving around, not crazy, just normal puttering around driving, my CEL and Slip light came on. The car ran fine but i pulled over and opened up torque asap. The code said that bank 1 was running lean. I turned the car off, let it sit a few minutes then turned it back on, lights still on, and car seems fine. I cleared the code and continued on my way figuring if it came back on, i'd start to get worried. 20 minutes of driving later, we are back home with the lights still off.

The car is stock other then a K&N CAI(installed last week), has ~3500 miles and is a MT.

Should i be worried? Obviously if it happens again, i'm calling my dealership ASAP, but could it have just been a hickup?

What are your thoughts kids?

I'm betting money that the intake is making the car run lean (that's how many intakes make power...leaning out the fuel mixture)...if it's not properly calibrated, it may cause issues. I would consider a tune or taking off the K&N intake...

Shouldn't the MAF adjust for the increased air flow to prevent a lean condition?

That's what I was thinking too, it should adjust itself. Plus there is no way I'm maxing out the injectors with just intake. If it happens again ill put the oem intake back on and call the dealership.

The MAF is calibrated for the exact location/orientation it is installed in the vehicle (or within production tolerances, for a stock setup). Installing an intake that repositions the MAF will most definitely change the percentage of airflow it's seeing. You need a proper tune to recalibrate the MAF table.

Edit: In fact, the ECM is adjusting itself. That's why you're getting the lean code, as the fuel trim has strayed too far from the normal range, most likely due to the MAF change.

same thing happened to me at the 3500km mark. My car has an injen intake and been running it for the past 2500km with no issues at all. I haven't checked the code tho, just unplugged the battery and reset the ecu.

Same issue happened to my friend's bone stock car!

There are hundreds of possible fault codes. Without knowing what code set on your car or your friend's car, there's no way to know if they are in any way related to the OP's problem.

I had the same thing happen and the dealership said that it had to do with the fuel pump and the crickets sound. They ordered me one of the new fuel pumps but the are back ordered. My lights went back out after a couple days.

Took it to dealer and the code read "bank 1 running lean". They updated the software with a new version and it's running fine since then, touch wood :p

I had this problem today, my issue was my MAF connector came loose, so I had to reconnect it. Slip light turned off, I cleared the code and everything was back to normal.
