Well, this thread is frightening. I autocross an Elise and really don't like the idea of my car trying to drive itself... badly. Maybe I should have just bought an old 911... I really don't know what sounds worse-- a car where I can never turn ABS on for daily driving or a car where I can't turn the ABS off and it sometimes decides to turn off the brakes. At least in a car without ABS you know what to expect... What the christ...
Intermittent computer intervention sounds incredibly awful. |

Can anyone comment on whether pulling the ABS fuse effects this ice mode? I also wonder what would happen if you disconnected the wheel speed sensors at the hubs as I believe those sensors are the only ones telling the car if a wheel is locked or not.
(strictly for track use of course, and not faster lap times just driving practice)

42 degree ambient temp, standing water on the track. Did the dance routine, when the car spun out, hear a nice young lady announcing "icy condition". And the car wouldn't start for a few seconds. After a few try's, ECU must have relaxed to let me start the car again. Not sure if the car stalled due to the spin out, or when icy condition was being announced?? Anyways she sounded very sexy!!! I might try that again just to hear her voice again...

I wonder if there is a Toyota interference with brake+throttle programmed into ECU due to the Unintended Acceleration issues (since some were allegedly caused by floormats).

Instead of the pedal dance couldn't you just pull a fuse to disable these features?

I get ice mode regardless of whether I'm doing the pedal dance. Don't stab at the brakes - ease on to them and try to threshold brake. My problem got a lot better once I boiled a bit of brake fluid and got a softer pedal. I needed more brake pedal travel to get the same amount of braking force, and so the system was better able to keep up with me. Quote:
The other option is to "hulk smash" the brake pedal when you encounter ice mode. You'll stop...sorta. A brake pad upgrade might help with this strategy since you'll generate more friction between pad and disc for the same pedal pressure. |
