Can the last couple of you who had the problem tell me if you had the Service Campaign ECU update applied already? Its the one that says its emissions/engine heat related for the states that follow CA emmissions.

My car did not have the Service Campaign ECU update applied. Stock ECU from Aug '12. I believe they updated it as the initial fix but CEL came back up and new ECM should be here today.

You might be OK. Just go to the first page, hit 'Ctrl + F' (assuming you're using Windows), and see if there are any other 6075. I have 6024XX and so far, I don't see any other VINs in that range. Then again, there have been quite a few reports that don't post their VINs.

I don't know if I have the updated ECU or not-- the car's manufacture date says July 2012, and I've just now taken it to the dealer for them to take a look and update the ECU if needed.

Other update: the issue showed up again today after resetting the ECU, so that appears to only be a temporary solution. I'm guessing the dealer will reflash the ECU, or update if I'm not current, and then we'll try it again and see if it comes back.

This car is not for you. Get a pickup truck you'll be happier.

Update: heard back from the dealer this morning. They confirmed I didn't have the latest ECU, and flashed the update. They believe the latest one (I didn't get info on if there is a newer new one they are using) solves this issue. After I pick up the car tomorrow it will likely take a few days to determine if the issue returns... I will post back here if the issue comes back. Otherwise, *crosses fingers* perhaps this will fix things this time!

Update: so they said that the CEL code had to do with lean fuel attributed to the fuel pump. They have ordered a new fuel pump but they are back ordered. They told me that the car was safe to drive and that they would call me as soon as the part came in. They said it could be 2 days or 2 weeks.

Fuel pump? Aside from the chirp issues, is this something new? Or have others had their fuel pumps replaced because they were malfunctioning in this way?

Sorry if this is a repeat question. Just reply with "old issue" or "new issue," if you like.

I'll be interested to see what happens when this CEL pops up after the 3 year/36k warranty. (Unless engine components are covered longer - anyone know if that's the case?) As it stands now, based on some of the higher mileage cars that are just now encountering CEL issues, the chances of me wanting to keep mine beyond the warranty period is very low. It'd be great if Subaru came out and said they would warranty this particular issue out to 10 years/100k, similar to what BMW did with their HPFP issue.

Engine is part of the powertrain warranty...5 years/60K miles...plus if you have documented engine issues then most decent manufacturers extend the powertrain warranty for a little bit or give you a bit of grace period even after the powertrain warranty is over to get bugs sorted out...
