Thanks Leaky for the info. Japan is an amazing country and i love going back again and again. i'm sure you are enjoying your trip.

regarding the 1000 annual production. just as a comparision, Mazda made 900,000 MX5/Roadster/Miata over 22 years. that's around 40,000 per year. i cant see how Toyota produces 40x less 86 than MX5/Roadster/Miata.....

please also comment on the driving position and space when u have a chance.

thanks

Given the rear side panels have the speakers, and given the shape of whatever is on the rear parcel shelf, they're likely simply the LATCH anchors [and covers] for baby seats. Not very glamorous, but logical.

If it's hand built then it's 1000 units a year...the miata was never hand built.

I believe Leeky's 1000/year and hand-built statement

I'm going to be one of the few who believes Leeky's "facts." Everyone on this forum is a small but passionate minority of the general public. This car will not be built for the masses nor be marketed as such (read this article). It's a niche halo affordable alternative to the LFA. 1000/year means it's more economical to hand build than to spend millions designing/building manufacturing robots.

A couple months ago a Scion rep involved in insider meetings in Japan told me there would only be a handful in the entire San Diego region every month. Disappointing but this 1000/year figure came as no surprise to me.

I want to believe Leeky about it but it doesnt add it at all (BTW Leeky thx for being the ft86club insider on location)

Only thing is labour is huge cost and with the number of units they could sell I dont see how it is more cost efficient than reprogramming robot arms.

Also I find it very hard to believe the 1000 units a month when my local scion dealership claims to be getting at least 5 upon launch

I just realized the irony of our insider's user name Leeky.
Fitting.

Uh because he posted ridiculous facts and asserted them as true, despite the obvious conflict with common sense.

And it's not like the pictures show anything new.

I want rotor diameters and width of the high and low spec to see if vented rears is the only difference between the two. Single piston sliders all around is more than enough so I don't care about that detail

And most all stock cars sound like crap, so what's the arguement there? Rear fill can be done right, and you can also make great systems without it. I never run it, I'd rather use amp channels for drivers that will provide a stable solid soundstage and great imaging.

And there are speakers next to the rear passengers already, I highly doubt they put 4 speakers in the back.

The car will be limited to 1000 units per year only.

Each car i can confirm will be hand made.

The automatic gearbox is based on the LF-A gearbox which means it will be a very good box. I spoke to people who have driven both the manual and the automatic and tell me that its hard to choose between the two. But that they are both very very good.

Toyota are not making any profit from the 86 and the sale price will make them break even.

Im happy to answer any questions about the car and will be posting up pictures and videos right now.

I will be going to the Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday were they will have a number of production models in different colours and spec - hopefully even a TRD GT86. I will sit in the car and take many detailed pictures for you all.

Best Regards

Leeky
I read in Road and Track magazine that 3,000 would be built which I tought was low and now you're saying only 1,000 worldwide. That doesn't make sense. Also I heard that in the next year or two there would be a sports model possibly called GTI. Any word on that? What happened to to the rear bumper that was on the concept model? Any chance of that being on a future model such as the GTI?
