I think my 2002 M3 will hold me over until someone finally adds a turbo to this car. I think I'm through with low torque cars, drove a friend's 135 the other day thought about selling the M to get one.

I still think they're fold up head rests.

Lol

I think the "hand made" bit was misunderstood.

Hand made would of priced it at 80K+ USD, as labor costs. It is made in Japan afterall, where manufacturers are paid handsomely.... unless they shift it to China where people work for 2 dollars per hour.

And 1000 units?? per year??..... I think you mean PER MONTH.

Toyota production always quote MONTHLY production... and even at 1000 units per MONTH, where it is produced in 1 plant (currently), that is still LOW.... considering this car is slated to be released GLOBALLY.

I'm not saying the OP is lying, but maybe some misunderstanding... its easy for that to happen.

its just a bad translation. the fact that the translator or the person he asked said LF-A instead of IS-F tells you everything you need to know.

also using an online translator, the japanese word for thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand are all different. here in the US we group everything by 3 digits (thousand, million, billion, etc.) elsewhere in the word, 10000 isnt "ten thousand" but its own denomination.

the answer to all of this is easy, Leeky for god's sake be a real reporter and get a pen and paper!!! write everything down!!

Thanks Leeky, your so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet important Toyota people and to see the car up close before everyone. I'm as upset about the news and numbers but Im going to wait for Scion and place my hopes with Subaru. I hope that's it's not missed place, but Subaru's rumor of 3000 is at least S2k range for it's first year, meaning we on this forum here all have a shot at a BRZ and hopefully FRS.

Thanks again

My guess is those are flip-up covers for child seat anchors.

Thanks Leeky for posting all this information. I dunno if you're looking for requests, but here's what I'm hoping you can clarify:
  1. Ballpark Price (for various trim levels, if possible). Seems like this won't be easy to find out.
  2. Are the four circular protrusions below the windows (two near each A pillar) speakers and/or mounting points for a cage? (if they're not for a cage, is there still a removable cover for a hole for installing one and can you snap a photo?)
  3. six speakers or eight? There appear to be four speakers on top of the dash (see previous question) as well as one speaker in each door, and one speaker below each rear window.
  4. Exact mass (curb weights) for racing, base, and loaded trims (currently seems to be 1180 or 1190 kg, 1210 kg, and 1230 kg). Is it expected to be heavier in the USA version? Or the BRZ variant?
  5. Aisin AY6 or AZ6 for tranny? (or something else?)

Thanks again!

Good job leeky and thanks for the pics and info!
Price wise and limited production doesn't phase me but... That rear end is killing me! The front and side profiles are near perfect but I just can't warm to the rear... Sigh.
I am glad about the April release. A dealer here in Oz told me possibly June/July at first :-)
Now just have to decide what do! ;-)

Thanks Leeky for the on-location information and pictures, looks like you're having a great time!

Regarding the 1,000 units a year; I can only fathom they mean Toyota-branded units for Japan. The "hand-built" part might also be a translation thing. That said, every production car today sees hand-built in some marketable facet, it just depends on the definition.
