Scheduled the appointment to install a new pump. I will let you know if it starts again in 300 miles.

1700 miles, loud chirping at idle after a long drive... only noticeable when parked next to something so the sound bounces back into the car.

Not going to get it replaced, at the most get the dealership to note in the warranty that it has the issue

Can definitely hear the a/c cycle on and off, but can't hear a chirp. Could it be the belt slipping slightly when the a/c cycles on? Maybe try applying a bit of belt dressing. See if that works.

Just to confirm... Because 51 pages is alot to skim. The chirping doesn't actually equate to anything wrong with the car? No long term damage likely? Becuase I actually kinda like the chirping, adds a little character.

Quick answer--nobody knows yet. The only problems that have come up from this is a guy who's car caught fire after it was improperly replaced.

After two months of waiting for the pump to come in I declined getting the new one installed due to the obvious reasons that the problem still persists. Hopefully a concrete fix is on the rise when the '14 models come out.

im pretty sure any chirping sound isn't a good thing. Just hasn't been long enough for it to become detrimental. The real question is if toyota cares to actually fix it, and if they don't will it break out of warranty ?

If it does it will break on (according to the poll) 81% of the cars, they will fix that, hell they even did a recall on the "mysterious acceleration" that was due to carpet misalignment.

Probably the biggest upshot to this car is that Toyota cares so much about image that they will rectify any widespread serious problem. As of right now funny noises aren't considered a serious problem, I bet there's a fuel pump out there with +150k miles on it and no issues.

Incorrect. Cars with DI have been chirping for 20+ years with no issues. This is not a noise specific to this pump, this car, or even Toyota's D4-S system.

It's a non-issue, and will not harm your car.
