Very sure that gearbox is based on IS-F. It's confirmed on leaked brochure, & also if you look into 10 min 15 sec of the second official video released by Toyota earlier, it's stated again, derived from an IS-F transmission.

Leeky's translator might be unintentionally feeding slightly skewed information. Either way, keep those updates coming through mate!

The whole each unit being hand built makes sense too. This is a smaller niche car that they would only do a limited production run of (something like 3-8 years)

It wouldn't make sense to put the money into creating a fully automated assembly line like they did with say the camry's.

The GT86 will probably be on a smaller assembly line which still has people doing most of the work. I think people are jumping to conclusions and thinking supercar style handbuilt with a pit and a crew per car.

again these are all speculation...but I've stopped to have my morning coffee and am thinking logically now.
It won't be completely handbuilt even at the low numbers. It's too hard to get everything right and costs too much. Reprogramming robots is easy.

It will be hand assembled like most cars (with the help of robots moving the parts) I'm sure, but not hand built. Very few cars are truely hand built, and they all show that in the price.

If this really is 1000 units a year, I better call Scion/Subaru now and give them my deposit!

launch day numbers perhaps? There has to be something logical behind this or something lost in translation.

1000 units worldwide? Madness.

And I think you mean IS F gearbox, not LFA.

$3,000 units x $30k (the price is just to play it safe)= $9million
I bet each working prototype costs $1million plus all the other prototypes, research etc. I'm sure developing that DI FB engine alone costed more than $9million.

there is NO freaking way in the world a company would do this
the NO profit cars is for Supercars that work as advertisement,
this car will be slow in HP standards so that wouldn't be good advertisement.

so.. many...newbs ... lol

Thanks leeky for your awesome pics and congrats on the trip once again!

I think the 1000 that will be made is talking about Japan really. Or to increase interest. the S2000 sold ~3000 its first year, then like ~7000 the next and ~9000 its 3rd (just US numbers), so I wouldn't mind the number. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can order one to your preference, just have to wait like, 6-8 weeks lol :/
