Take the new tire to a shop that can true tires concentrically and have them shave the tire to equal the tread depth of the other three tires.

Many racing classes employ street tires. Those tires are typically shaved to 3/32" tread depth before use. Just about "worn out," in other words. Tire shaving is commonplace in performance circles.

If anyone else can confirm that there is a problem with this, or explain why one must replace all four tires when only one is damaged irreparably, I'd appreciate it. If this is a real problem, then it's a real deterrent to me and may cause me to dismiss AWD in the future.
Probably because the tire shops want to sell 3 more tires rather than lose business to someone that can shave them.

Apparently having different diameter/circumference front to back can screw up the center differential. It can overheat from always trying to balance the skewed front to rear speeds. While this makes very apparent sense when it comes to towing AWD properly (dollies so no end spins) it's kind of hard to see if it would rapidly cook a diff from the small difference from old vs new tires. But better safe than sorry seems to prevail.

Shaving the other tire would make sense financially so long as the other three aren't too worn.

If I get active duty, that is. With the draw down the number of available jobs is going to go down. If I don't, then I can go back to school for my Masters degree. If they ask me to go to the Sandbox I'll go. But I would prefer Korea or some please East if I had to choose. I've heard Afghanistan is nice.

Exactly. I enrolled in the X-plan already, as a precursor. But the hatchback rumors make me want to wait a little longer.

Tell the truth, now, Giccin!

Go back there ... and do it RIGHT this time.

Full throttle in first gear to 6000 rpm, shift to second and full throttle immediately to 6000 rpm. Check for Enforcers in the vicinity, first of course.

I'll bet the MS3 actually gives you a fright!

:happy0180:
I took it easy! It wasn't my car! LOL

I didn't floor first... I just went off slowly. Lol Then I punched 2nd. I definitely felt it in 2nd. Which is why I started considering the MS3!

However, I was in the car when the owner punched first. WITH traction control on he list grip. LOL it was great.

Yes yes! I has a question(s) for you.

Titanium. I'm sure.. you could cook on it and eat off it. Unless I don't know something.

Are there different grades of titanium?

Can you get titanium?

Can I order a custom made titanium design from you if I pay you.

How much would it cost?

And..

Titanium.

Yes, they make camping cooking/cutlery stuff out of it.

Yes. Pretty much all metals have specialized grades for specialized purposes, titanium is no different.

Yes, but a bit of a hassle. Nothing local that I've found, so Internet. I have about a foot of 1" dia bar of unknown grade that I play with on the machines a bit.

Maybe, depends what you want.

Depends on how much material, the grade, and the time. Also how much I can do myself, and if I need outside processing.

And...

Yes.

No grill tops, though.

That would involve me convincing my buddy to weld it up...

Get me some dimensions and I can give you a material estimate.

What about something like this:

http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Hiking...able-grill.jsp

In titanium would be cool, but I would have to get it laser or waterjet cut somewhere. And a lot of wasted material for the holes.

Oh. The holes are on the bottom. The grill top is just the lines.

So... they're not really together if you get what I mean. haha

Well, give me a rough diameter estimate of the whole grill, or rectangular dimensions, diameter of the grill rods, spacing and I'll throw out a very rough material estimate using Grade 2 commercially pure titanium (common and least expensive).
